A project for y'all...what's on ya doorstep ?

theres some tiny path a few miles from my house....looks like parks and rec made a pathway...too dry for fire practice....but ~1hr away is the mt charleston area of the spring mountains...need to get up there soon.....only downside is camping is $20 a night!!!!!

i think ill just have to do some backcountry :) i would like to go and show the ball n chain how to at least start a fire.

does the LV strip count? its got animals! :)

great pit!

That's an easy one for me. I live in the middle of nowhere so nature is all around. The first three were taken no more than 6 or 7 miles from my doorstep, the last three less than a mile away.

Sweet thread! I've been in Oregon about 1.5 years now, and have jut started to scratch what's around me. I just order 5 guide books on different areas, but locally I'm blessed with tons of options.

One neat way I've found of exploring locally is through geocaching. I've been surprised how much there is around me, and even if there wasn't it would be gun to create my own. My son loves it too.

We've also started to really pay attention to bugs (my son is 5), we got a praying mantis as a pet and it's been neat to find food and watch him eat.

I remember having what seemed like a lifetime of exploring when I was little just wondering in my backyard.

I`m going to take your "doorstep" comment literally. This was taken in my backyard last spring.

And this one about a month ago on a trail about a mile from home.

I am lucky enough to live in a rural area and have a couple acres of my own to play in.

Plus larger areas, public and private, nearby.

A old shot, taken from my backdoor...

I used to live just south of Houston, and was stuck in the gross urban sprawl. However there was a flood drainage ditch that ran for about 300 yards in the back of my apartment complex, and would do 2-3 laps just to stay sane. I saw 5 different species of herons sometimes standing together, snapping turtles and red eared sliders (I even found a 1.5 foot wide snapper mamma, I'll get pictures up later) water moccasins, and lots of other animals. Now I live at the base of the Cascades so I, like black hills, have it easy. I'll get some up as soon as I can remember my damned photobucket password...

Great thread idea, pitdog.

I live right in the middle of downtown Toronto, and you would have to go a ways from my doorstep to find any grass that is not part of a well-maintained lawn. Still, there are plenty of parks in the city. I usually flee up north for my wilderness fix. This coming week, I'm going to make a point of exploring some of my local green space. I'll post pics!

All the best,

- Mike
