I thought I'd mix it up a little bit. Being that this is the "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" subforum, I figured that some of you might like my newest knife.

This puukko is 8 1/8" long, with a 3 13/16" silversteel blade. The handle is stacked birch bark, with a brass bolster and buttcap. The sheath (tuppi) is the traditional leather with a wooden insert.

Christian......

And what a beautiful example too........now if I only could figure out what I'd do with another knife something like this would be it.............

Fantastic,it is my kind of knife ,love the feel of birch bark handle

That´s a nice knife. I like it very much! Especially the smitty´s skin makes it looking really archaic and outstanding.

Thank you for sharing.

Kind regards
Andi

What a beautiful work of art. Love the stacked birch bark handle. Looks like the sheath was painted on. Thanks for sharing

Very nice. I'd love to see one in person.

I'd also enjoy owning one, if only to be able to say, "This is a Puukko by Pekka."

That is very cool! I've recently become much more interested in Scandinavian fixed blades...

Real nice, Christian! Every texture complements the rest. It is Art as well as Knife!!

Thanks guys.

Me too Corey. I like their simple, utilitarian nature. Some people don't like puukkos because of the guardless design, but I figure that I use slipjoints all the time and am none the worse for wear. If anything puukkos are probably safer because I don't have to worry about the blades closing on my fingers.

Thanks Charlie. The art aspect was purely accidental. When I spec'd out this knife I did so with the idea that it was going to be a user. I wanted the birch bark for the handle because it is an incredible material. Resistant to rot because of the natural oils in the wood, it feels great in the hand and is naturally grippy. I asked Pekka to leave the blade with a forged finish so that it wouldn't sting so much when I put it to work. I'm glad that everything turned out well, but that's a credit to the maker more than anything.
