now that im not working anymore im looking to sway my edc piece away from a utility style blade to more of a tactical style blade. im considering picking up my first zero tolerance and am looking at a 400. my qustion is about one handed closing these pieces. is it easy to do or is there alot of resistance when closing the blade akin to an axis assisted knife from BM, i really dislike the closability on those.

You can close it one handed with some resistance;I can close my 0301 one handed. You'll have to push the blade all the way - if you let it slip a little too early, it'll spring back open.

I never had a problem closing the 0400 with one hand. Compared to the BM Barrage, it's a little less "freaky" to close. Smoother and less snappy, I guess. This could be simply that I'm more accustomed to Kershaw's assisted opening than the Axis assist.

Those 0400s don't get a lot of talk, but they are great knives. The blade shape seems designed to take a lot of abuse.

You should be good to go unless you have little Sally hands. :D

Seriously, I've never had a problem closing my A/Os one handed. I did have a G-10 Tyrade not close all the way when I was rushing and it sprung back open. It wouldn't have cut myself if I didn't instinctively try to snatch it out of mid air. A word to the wise.... let the knife fall.

No matter how much resistance I close all my assisted knives and even my compression-lock Para against the side of my right thigh.

Simply disengage the lock and and then fold it closed against my leg.

Started doing that from using a beartrap-like GEC but works well with assisted opener tension.

I own, and carry a ZT0400 quite often. It can be closed with one hand easily. Upon disengaging the lock, you can use your index finger or swing your thumb around to the spine. I wear XL-XXL gloves, but I`m guessn any size hands can do it with practice.

The ZT0400 is a great EDC knife for those that want something larger. The tanto and recurved belly is a turn off to many, for me it was. Until I started using it more. The tip is great for pickn, pokin and pryn. The recurve excels at pull cuts, and open push cuts. I don`t recommend it for cuttn your steak and potatoes during dinner.

The clip side is smooth, the trac-tec is only on the front handle and provides great grip. The handle is shaped very similar to the Kershaw Shallot, only larger. And, IMHO, the AO operates like a Shallot, in that it requires much more force to open, meaning closed blade retention is very strong.

I carry mine tip up, it rides well at around 5oz, slides in and outta the pocket very smoothly, but at the same time, the ZT clip is strong and secure.

A very underrated model in the ZT line up.

i have another Q before i go ahead and order one of these, how thick is the handle. i like a fairly thin handle for my EDC piece, ive got pretty big mitts and i like to be able to get my right hand into the pocjet with the knife cliped in there too.

Depends on how big your pocket is. You'll be able to reach in and grab something if your pockets aren't ridiculously tight. I echo everything that serrated edge says--it's a terrific knife.
