ok , we all know STR is a multi talented bloke when it come to modifying , so i was just wondering , inj your opinion , STR , can a byrd be waved?

I'm not STR, but I'll give your question a whack.
I have seen pictures on other sites of people's garage mods of waved byrds. It is just like the "tsunami" mod that is done on spyderco's, where you cut into the spyderhole to make a (really huge) wave. These mods are certainly going to make your blade weaker. The byrd's are built very similar to the spydercos, so the basics of waving one are about the same as waving the other. If I were to venture a guess, I might suggest that a garage-waved byrd might be a little stronger than a spyderco with the same treatment because of the lower carbon content of the steel. Bear in mind, though, that I haven't seen any good information about the behavior of the byrd steel.

Sorry, I couldn't fine one. I know that there are mods of home-waved spydercos on this forum if you look.

Maybe you could do something like this? A 'mini-wave' that would still catch the pocket edge and not comprimise the blade strength too much? This is not an actual mod, but a picture of one of my Meadowlarks made to look modded in Photoshop. :) Hmm...maybe I need a dremmel tool now...

Darklight, that's exactly how I was thinking of waving one of my Cara Caras. Though I would go a bit deeper with the hook and round the top edge a bit more. There's no reason why it wouldn't work. I've seen pics of some garage-waved Spydercos done this way and apparently they work fine.

Yeah, I had seen some pics of people going all the way through to the hole - I didn't like that too much - basically leaving a protruding horn. Anyhow, I totally agree with you - and I'm currently looking to borrow a dremmel from a friend to try this out. I'll post pics if I can get it done soon.
