I have two Emerson designed knives made by Benchmade. A 970 and a 975S (Benchmade designations). Very similar to CQC6 & CQC7 but without the wave and ATS-34 blade steel. My question relates to collector value. Do these knives have any collector value? Thanx

short answer, yes. depending on condition and blade configuration.

seems the black plain edge 970's and 975's are the most scarce. i have only seen one of each for sale.

the most common is the 970 bead blast/serrated.

the 970st titanium only had about 5000 made as well.

i have seen the bm cqc7's sell for between 100-300, depending.

Thanks for the great information. Condition of both is the same. NIB and still in the box, with all paperwork, etc. The 970 is the plain edge black, but the 975 is the more common stonewash, partial serrated. From what you tell me, looks like I have a better than decent beginning to an Emerson collection. Thanks again.

Sorry, but that ain't gonna happen. Both knives were a gift from a much loved family member who also happens to be a lot bigger than me. If I ever sold them (I found out how much work it took him to find them), I would be mush.

the 970 is the CQC7 and the 975 is just a 970 with a slightly longer blade neither is any relation to a CQC6, the CQC6 is offered as a custom only. i used to think the 975 was like the I&I tanto by EKI but they are completely different also, EKI offered nothing to compare to the 975 untill they came out with the super 7. but anyway the '6 and '7 are completely different knives, diff handles, diff blades, diff blade lengths, the '6 is a hair shorter than a '7, 3.3" to 3.5" IIRC.

i have seen std 970's and 975's like ya describe for $100 to $150, maybe a little higher, though they do seem to be going up some lately, if they were sold on BF i dont think ya could get $150 FWIW. if on ebay who knows??

also for any collector value they would have to be in LNIB condition.

I have this Emerson Mini CQC-7 SFS for sale its NIB unmarked $190 Australian  Sorry cant attatch to this forum ,I tried! Ill email a pic if interested

If one were to come across a 970S (bead blast finish, plain edge) made in 1997 mint in the original box for a little over a hundred bucks would it be worth snapping up, or is that price nothing to write home about?

Thanks.

if ya are looking for one its an ok deal imho, if ya want a collectible, if ya want a user the EKI version is better imho.

if its a 970S its a part serrated IIRC, the plain edge is more collectible imho, better knife too.

but thats not just a smoking deal most i have seen that sell are ~$125 to $150, i've seen them listed for $200 but they never sell for that, not often anyway.

It was improperly listed as a 970S, as it is in fact a plain edge. I went ahead and bought it.

Thanks for the info guys!

Don't forget that Benchmade also offered a left handed version of the 975.
I happen to have one LNIB... 975 SBT-L.
I don't know how many were made, but they came out shortly before the 970/975 models were discontinued.
