I'm still new here so bear with me, please. What does the "Ubbb" following
the info on a particular knife mean?

BTW, is there a Bio of Sgt. Karka anywhere? Maybe a pic?

Uncle Bill's Best Buy.

There used to be a little blurb somewhere on the HI site. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Bill Martino (our hereditary leader) is often known as Uncle Bill. A UBBB is Uncle Bills Best Buy or Uncle Bills Best Bargain. Usually they are specials and blems that are foisted on the unsuspectiing ( :D ) Cantinal Community!!

Which some real sharks always manage to beat me to....

Actually, I think UBBB implies that it isn't a blem, just a deal.

*Anything* that is offered here is special...only the regular stuff at list price is offered at the sales site.

Watch your extremities as you reach for Bill's offerings...the waters are *full* of sharks!

Sometimes offerings are blems - some minor cosmetic issue, like a spot of rust or something not up to spec. You get a great knife, great price, and get to fix it up to your liking. HI taught me that instead of looking for the perfect knife, you can fiddle with the one you have until it's perfect for you. Hence lot of people here doing everything from handle refinishing to full rebuilds. Not a few people have also made this the gateway to all-out knifemaking.

Other stuff - Best Buys are first quality stuff that may be special somehow. Lately we've been getting lots of unusual models (some designed by forumites, some by the kamis) and really beautiful handle materials that aren't on the shopping site. If you're looking for something very particular, you can always email headquarters and ask if it's available. However, it's far more popular to wait for whatever daily temptation pops up!

In the past I've emailed Uncle Bill about something I was interested in, and gotten a very quick, usually very satisfactory reply. I don't know, now that he's not feeling well... I don't want to bother them if I'm not placing an order.
I wish there was a glossary of terms posted here. It's kinda frustrating to have to page through the site to find what a term means - and some I don't think are even on the HI site. Or are buried somewhere.

If you want to quickly find something on the HI website
you can use this google as a shortcut:
http://www.google.com/search?q=faq+site:www.himalayan-imports.com&num=100&filter=0

After the google page appears from above
replace the 'faq' term in the search box
with the term you want
then press the google 'search' button

Thank you for the link. The FAQ answered a number of my questions.
Of course, I thought of still more questions... :D

hehehe...

Typical. Almost everything Dean says leads to more thinking!
