A question about moderation...

I am not looking to stir things up, but I have somewhat of a question in regards to the moderation of the boards here. Specifically, this is in regards to the thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...lipped-in-under-the-radar-the-Kershaw-Median! which twice got closed by moderators. The first time is was closed by RevDevil, I PM'd him and respectfully expressed my opinion that the thread did not need to be closed (etc.) and he re-opened it. Shortly later, it was again closed by Morrow.

First of all, for what it is worth, I am someone who tends to be pro-moderator (vs the users who can't stand having moderators interfering with them...). However, I have issues with the closure of this particular thread, for reasons I will now mention. There was some degree of intolerance of other posters opinions expressed in this thread, which I don't consider acceptable and I even referred to this in the thread myself. However, from what I can see, this is NOT why this thread was closed. As far as I can see, this thread was closed because the moderators disagreed with some of the OPINIONS that were being expressed in this thread. Whether right or wrong, I don't believe that moderation should be used to suppress an opinion that the moderator disagrees with. Perhaps I am seeing this all wrong, but that is how it looks to me, I must be honest. So I just with to express this. Thanks.

It appeared to be going down hill quickly, but I was a tad perplexed by the closing comment, also. Maybe I missed something.

It's not the opinions that were disagreeable, rather the lack of substance to support them. Some of the same people chime in with what amounts to sniping, a trolling commentary that adds nothing educational, no alternate point of view, nothing more than a way to incite others. In this particular case, people that may be new to the forums or knives in general read that stuff and are immediately put off. It also breeds dissension and animosity amongst folks, and for what? A $20 knife most people here would not necessarily be interested in?

RevDevil, you MOST CERTAINLY are more familiar with the users here than I am, so you likely possess knowledge that I lack in regards to views that were being expressed in the thread in question. However, from my (perhaps limited) viewpoint, valid discussions were being had in the thread regarding using lower quality materials in the manufacture of knives, and whether that is valid even if is NOT meant for US.

The dissension and animosity I DO NOT LIKE! A free flow and acceptance of others opinions I DO LIKE! That is all I am hoping to express here. Thanks! :)
