I was wondering what the ideal speed/rpm/horsepower is for a steel cutting bandsaw and where can I get variable speed motors for grinders and stuff here in Canada. Ive been searching online and cant find anything.
Thanks.

Princess auto has a cheap portable bandsaw that goes slow enough (the slower the better). You just need to rig up a stand for it. Unless you have lots of money, get a single speed motor and step pulleys to go with it. Work your way up to variable speeds and VFDs.

From the research that I have been doing, if you wanted a motor that will last you into the bigger tools, get something that is 1750 RPM with 1.5-2HP, and use step pulleys to make it variable speeds. If you could afford it spend it on a 1.5-2HP variable speed motor.

Ebay is a good place to look as well as repair shops.
