I bought a Rough Rider Kamp King. It is really nice, well made and nice looking. However it is really thick and chunky. Were the old ones chunky as well?

Yes, I would consider the old ones chunky. I had one for about 8 years and I always considered it a fat, chunky knife. I liked that about it. The only reason I don't have it anymore is that I found someone who needed it more than I did.

I still have this Utility/Scout knife that I believe to have been made in the same factory. It's even chunkier.

It's a really thick and nice handle that fills the hand. A Sak Spartan is a lot slimmer. I'm not about to carry it in my jeans pocket.
Regards Erik

Yes, same factory: Kamp King is 2 layer vs Colt 3 layer. Have an original Imperial Kamp King - about the same width as the RR.

I have original Kamp king (and other camp knives). I would not call, most of them, chunky. The older they are the slimmer they are, in my experience.
Definitely no 3 springs though.

No experience with RR.

I can’t answer your question, but I didn’t want to ask how you like it, and how the the F&F is? I’ve been thinking about getting an R&R one for a while now but haven’t yet.

I don't have the camp king but I do have this one, unless its what they call their camp king. This one is obviously a copy of Case's version, both of which are beefy. Thick brass liners and overall a bit bigger than my Camillus and Ulster scouts. Thicker blade stock, springs and liners than my others.
