I suppose I could find the info if I search hard enough, but I'm hoping someone can save me the time.

When did the snaps on Buck's sheaths go from one "Buck" (like the one below) to three?

Tell em brother its easier to put the feed out before the cattle get to the bunker.......lol.
As for the snap it looks like everyone I have unless I missed something. My oldest sheath is an '77. I'll look thru mine and see if I see some differences.

I don't know about the date but on another note, does it bother anyone else but me that not one "BUCK" snap is put on right side up? I've got dozens of them and everyone is upside down or crooked...it bugs me.... ;o)

We can start by example. I have a 1988 118 with single buck and a 1992 639 with a 3 buck snap.
Others jump in.......

Like all things Buck, I'm betting it's not going to be a simple definitive date, different models and sheaths being phased in at different times, mixing new stock and old stock etc....

I guess you don't sleep in, Dave.

I have this weird sleeping schedule (or lack there of) where about 4 or 5 days a week, I wake up in the middle of the night. I just get up, have coffee and play on the computer!

Not on a work day... ;)

No such thing for me anymore as a work day. Work would interfere with both my morning and afternoon naps!;)

Good idea. I can narrow it down that way. I have a 1990 with a 3 buck snap that is new in the box, so I can be pretty confident that it's the original sheath. That narrows it down to '89 when the change took place or began to take place.

P-Dave,,, Might also narrow down the timeline for the one line silver shift to the one line bronze.

Are there any three line silver?

Yes, I have one in front of me as we speak.

Bronze vs. silver? Dang it, just when I thought I had it figured out!

My one line nib 1989 Damascus 110 is a one line bronze. The 1990 nib Red Bone is a 3 line bronze. (circle)

My 1990 110 (NIB) has the 3 line silver on a black sheath. I wonder if the color of the sheath matters as far as what color the snap is? The other brown 1 line snap sheath is bronze.

Color of the sheath may well determine color of snap. Both of my sheaths are brown.

Another factor,,, You gonna need a spreadsheet.. :)

Well, that theory didn't pan out. Most but not all my brown sheaths have bronze snaps and most but not all my black sheaths have silver ones.

I just located a new 1989 121 that has the one line silver snap so they were still in use then. I'll keep looking to see if I can find one from 1990 or a three line from '89.

Hmmmmmm my '77, '88, '92 110s with black leather sheaths has 1 Buck on brass snap. My 560 from '95 in black cordura sheath has 3 bucks on brass. I checked date codes before I posted. Dang good question.
