A Question About Surge's Torx Adjustment

I've recently bought an LM Surge and noticed that the Serrated blade would veer off to the inside of the handles, almost touching it (and sometimes really brushing off against the inside of the handles), after a few opening and closing of the blade. I would adjust the torx screw to straighten the serrated blade, even giving an allowance so that it would be far off from the inside of the handles, but still it would go back to brushing against the handle.

Is this normal? I haven't experienced this with my Wave. Could I have a defective product? Or did Leatherman put the torx adjustment screws to precisely remedy this "inherent" product defect?

All I can say is that the Serrated Blade is slightly "wobbly". I don't have the same problem with the straight blade. Anybody experience this?

Hmmm... I EDC the Surge too (and love it!), never had that little problem. Did you check that the Saw/File on the other side isn't wobbly as well? Maybe you have a defective unit. You may wanna have the LM-warranty guys take a look at that and replace it fortwith if they have to.

Also, I remember there was this one thread asking why his clip-point knife edge was touching the inside channel of the handle, but I think that was because the blade lacked the little 'bump' on the base of the blade that prevents it from touching. You may also have to check that out.

Anyway, keep us posted. That may be something I have to watch out for with my own Surge.

On my surge, purchased today, the serrated blade does touch the inside edge of the outer handle when closed. The liner lock puts pressure on the blade when closed and makes it go in that direction. My straight edge blade is centered. adjustment of the pivot tension my remedie it, but I'm not going to mess with mine.

Also, did you notice the saw blade holder will accept jig saw blades? Just dropped a Bosch metal cutting blade into mine, and stored the 2 included blades in their holder inside the pouch.

Awesome tool so far.

Looks like we have exactly the same problem John. Though I do adjust the torx adjustment on mine to swing the serrated blade far back into the outer handles, thus giving a bit of allowance. It's not a big deal really. The serrated blade just happens to swing back into the "brushing the inside handles" after a couple of days. I put a mark on the torx screws and notice they do turn on their own intermittently when unfolding the serrated blade or blade exchanger. Doesn't affect the functioning nor the sharpness of the blade. Just annoys the heck out of me just as the "minor" clumping on the inside tools (as you'll eventually see with yours :D ) does annoy me.

Thanks for the info. I don't own any of the torx drivers with the security post or I probably tinker with mine as well. Funny I'm really picky about stuff like this on my knives, but for some reason it doesn't really bother me on the multi tool.

I really was on the fence about which tool to get leatherman wise. Only regret is I didn't get it in black. Of course I'll probably be glad I didn't in a year from now after using it.

Used it today to do a bug screen replacement on my window. I like it so far.

Need to order the bit set and the pocket clip.

Keep us posted about your blade centering.

Take care,
John
