A question about swords

I had no idea where to post this, but I was looking into buying two swords, preferrable katanas. One for me and one as a gift. I know this is a knife forum, but what would you people reccommend?
(I was looking into one just to put on my wall, so quality isn't really an issue, but the person I was buying the knife for was looking into the Zatoichi type swords that are hidden inside of a walking stick)

The folks at http://www.swordforum.com might better be able to answer your question.

T'were it I, I'd go for katanas from Kris Cutlery (the swordforums site has links to them on the web). But I'm cheap, and those are regarded as good "beater" cutlery because they're considered inexpensive compared to the nicer stuff.

Hmmm....a katana inside a "walking stick".

Perhaps someone has watched "Blind Fury" to many times

Try CASI's Hanwei line. The Practical Katana is only $135 and has a genuine hardening line. It is also okay for actual use. The Kris Cutlery is more robust though.

Some of the best craftsmanship I've seen.

A few good wall hangers would be the "REAL" Highlander swords made by Marto of Spain.

Also without more info it would be hard to suggest a sword. If you like give me a call and I could go over most of the swords for you. Probably the closest thing you will find to a "Bland Fury" at a reasonable price will be a Shirasaya. Give me a buz...

I looked at the Criswell page(s). The prices look quite reasonable, and I'm o.k. with the stainless steel blade, and I'm o.k. with the paracord wrap handle, but a hollow-grind on a katana just seems so...so..._wrong_. Oh well; it's fun to look, anyway.

I carry and sell the "Blind Fury Zatoichi" Sword made by Paul Chen. It is a live blade with a real temper line. The blade is 29" and is 39" overall. Dark hardwood handles and scabbard. Email me for price.
