i was just wandering if the edge pro was all it was made out to be.I have a freind who is going to purchase one and i want to know if it is really the best system on the market today. Please let me know:cool:

fI sure hope so! I have bought the Apex, but haven't found time to learn how to use it yet. My research led me to buy one even though I have many other systems. You'll enjoy talking to Ben. A true gent who is vitally concerned that his product is the best it can be.:D

It's excellent for fixed blade. However I tend to find it hard to use on folders.

My only thing is i wish the knife clamped to the machine, instead of you holding it there.

I've been thinking about modifying it slighly to accomplish this, i'm not sure yet.

It has to allow rotation so as to keep the stone perpendicular to the edge, and thus keep the angle constant.

There has been extensive commentary on the Edge Pro in the Reviews forum and archive.

Yes it is.
I purchased the Apex some time ago and love it.
Just take some time to learn how to use it properly by practicing on some low quality knives.
The one thing to be careful of, though, is that the slurry formed on the blade rest will scratch that side of the blade.
Tape the sides of the blade well to avoid scratching.
I've found no better way to get even angles on both sides of the blade. It's also the best way to reprofile an edge.
I've found that once I get the edge the way I like it with the EdgePro, a quick touch up on the Spyderco Sharpmaker is all that's needed.
Funny, it's so good, it makes itself unneeded.
