The SP-8 Blade Blank width starts at 1.90". After milling the spine, milling the saw teeth and sharpening the edge, the final width is approx. 1-7/8".
Hope this helps.

The SP-8 is an AWESOME blade. I have beat the snot outta mine & it just laughs at me !
I used a dremel tool with a cut-off blade & sharpened the sawback teeth, then cut angled grooves across the teeth to clear the woodchips better. It works 100% better now. It makes me smile everytime i use it. Love that thing.
Mine is great also and I have an early version before they went to 5160. But it still holds strong and tough it is a part of my survival kit. Heavy yes but do I feel I can depend on it yes. That feeling of security priceless in a bad situation
SP-8s are still 1095. I got one, gave it to sis and then got another to have. She likes her for in her car in the big city because it don't look so "Knifey".
My guess newer ones are 1075 steel, as OKC said they swapped to the steel for their non governmental contract knives because they found its a better steel. Its better for impact tasks and chips less and other stuff making it a better all round steel for the knives they make. Now I can use my SP-8 with even more with out worry the way its going to get a work out this warmer weather!
