a question about the "toad"

I have recently purchaced two
toads to add to my collection.
the first knife has a number stamped
on the spine with the same number
referenced on the box.cool
the second toad is not numbered
on the spine or the box. my question
is: does anybody know if spyderco
made a special limited run with
numbered models of the toad??

Is it a collector club knife? I believe the numbers don't exceed 200 if so

That may be the collector's number and might be one he or she did not take that was however allocated for them.
 
It was a collaboration model back in the days when the first production run were numbered. The numbers probably ran up to 600 or so, but it does mean it is a first run knife. The other one is from a later batch, and given the total number made, is likely from the second production run.
