A question for Chris

Hey, Chris. I've got a question about the SOG site. Why aren't blade thicknesses listed under the specifications of most fixed blades? When I looked through them, it seems that the Team Leader is the only one with a thickness listed. I don't think I can speak for all here, but blade thickness is something that is important for me to know before purchasing a knife. The thickness can very much change the cutting performance for various tasks. Thanks, Chris.

I notice the same thing the other day. I must say I don't like that change, I would like to know what the thickness is.

If you take a close look at SOG's knives. You notice that the "thickness" appears to be only the part near the guard/handle. The thickness decreases rapidly down the spine towards the tip.

Has its good points, but that is why I won't use my SOG for prying/batoning. It's part of the design for a lighter knife and to save money from producing more steel per knife I guess.

I thought there is full thickness on the flats that go along the center(ish) part of the blade.

Oops my bad - only noticed it today. The blade actually has uniform thickness until very near the tip. I was looking from the bird's eye view of the spine so it appeared to be thick at the handle area. Never noticed that the center horizontal portion was that thick too.

The Bowie design is a unique design I must say.

Yeah, I understand. Looking from the spine it does appear to thin even though there is some full thickness along the center of the blade.

With that in mind, my Seal 2000 tip seems pretty durable. I wouldn't put it up against my Scrap Yard and Swam Rat knives, but it still seems to have a durable tip, especially for how well it can pierce.

Thanks for the comment. We are in the process of adding more information to the site and thickness is part of that. I would say we will have it all uploaded by the end of the year.

Alright! Perhaps you'll have some new 2010 models uploaded, too!:D

That is great news. Blade thickness is also important to me and always wondered why it was never on the SOG site
