Hello Neil! I was perusing your site AGAIN the other day (I am a knife site stalker, by the way!) and it reminded me to ask you this. Where have all the ninjas gone? You came out with that great fixed blade, scaled it down, and now I see that you aren;t taking orders for ninjas anymore!! I'm just curious why this is so, for now.

Hmm... maybe I should have asked this in an e-mail.... Ah, I'll leave it here, as maybe other forumites would like to know what you're doing these days too. If you want to e-mail me, please do so!

I'm pretty sure Neil's gearing up heavily to get into folders.
How cool is that?!

I too am figuring this to be Neil's direction, but pure speculation. I just took delivery on one of his well established fixed blades, and was informed that mine was perhaps the last one.

Neil is a fine bladermaker, and if folders are tending to be his choice, you will see some fine ones.

Crayola,
No problem!! Let me tell ya....
Over the past year, with MUCH help from my friends here at the forums, I'm busier with knives than I EVER expected to be.

http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum44/HTML/000090.html

In order to keep going in the direction that I would like (folders), decisions and changes HAD to be made. In order to create shop time, several of my more time consuming fixed blade models HAD to be put on "hold". These include the American Ninja and LiteWave.

Both knives have lots of holes in the tangs AND in the blade. Most of the American Ninjas that have solid handle material, also have drilled AND tapered tangs. The only way for me to make these models cost effectively is in groups, up to and including heat treat. After that, I would finish them one or two at a time. In order to keep my delivery schedule for other customs on track AND gear up for folders.....I decided not to tie up a week or two prepping another group of these two models.

I WILL make at least a dozen, D2, American Ninjas early next year...PROMISE!!!

Since the around the first of the year, I've been aquiring new equipment in order to properly produce folders. I'm making ALL the components including the pivots, only frame screws are purchased! As a machinist, I didn't even want to consider folders until I had a milling machine AND a lathe!! Getting these in place and running has caused some temporary electrical and SPACE problems in my shop!! For about two months, my big drill press was disconnected, so I couldn't drill American Ninja blanks if I wanted too

Finally, everything is now in place and running. Folders are still in the prototype stage but I'm spending time with them everyday, in between my fixed blade orders. It will still be a month or so before I post pictures of them and deliver the first ones. Right now I have 3 designs in various stages of completion. One is based on my Medium Tactical.

Folders, folders, folders..... As always, I'm VERY open to suggestions, ideas, thoughts and DEMANDS from the forum members

I should probably take this to a separate post!! What would ya'all like to see?? So far my designs are rather heavy duty, rugged looking things, not ARTSY

That may come later! How about a Mega Folder based on the American Ninja Blade???

An American Pocket Ninja probably would be a big hit!!!

Thanks for the info Neil. By the way, I'll actually be finishing a few magic knot knives this summer! I have one rough ground already.

I like to hear about top knife makers like yourself moving to folders. Soon I'll be experienced enough not to call myself a newbie, and I'll be the ONLY guy making fixed blades!!! WOHOO!!!

Blackwood folders!!! WE WANT PICTURES AND WE DON'T WANT TO WAIT A MONTH!!! And don't forget about us lefties! Once you get it all figured out, just do a few backwards.

Neil, I can live without "artsy". Create a mega folder with your American Ninja blade style, make it as heavy duty as a Strider Custom folder, and I'll just start mailing you my paychecks because there's no way that I'll be able to get enough of them.

Bring 'em on!

Neil- any estimate on the waiting period for a dual-action pocket American Ninja auto (left-handed, of course)?

Neil,

I emailed you about this, but I guess it doesn't hurt to post. I'm not too stoked about all the mega-folders. I know there are people who carry around knives with 5.5" blades, but I prefer something in the 3-3.5" range. A nice smallish pocket knife that I can use daily and enjoy without worrying others that I'm carrying around a folding sword.

Oh yeah, and of course you'll need to do some left handed.

Neil,
Love my Neck Ninja - how about a matching Neck Ninja folder? With Madd Maxx & Scorpion got Mega covered for now - Neck Ninja blade with anodized dimpled Ti handles to match fixed!! Now that would be a pair!!!!(Just as sweet too!)

Eric,
Taken to Email! I'm looking forward to discussing this further with you.

Richard,
I could have a DA, Pocket Ninja Folder to you in a few weeks.......Oh.....you want a lefty HMMMMMMMMMMM. I'll let you know about that one
wink.gif
I have these two TANTOS tying up my shop
biggrin.gif

Mitch,
As discussed per Email, 3-3.5" folders are what's in the works now. Lefty versions will not be a problem. Can't you guys just switch hands??

Bill,
That model is also being considered but is not yet even on the drawing board. 3.5-4", wide recurved blade, "reverse bubbles" on the Ti. frame...... I think that would be HOT also!!
