A question for hawk throwers

I am planning on getting a Cold steel hawk or two and wanted to know how they stood up to being thrown? While I am aware that its what they are meant to be used for I am very new (have never done any hawk throwing) to throwing any thing other than knives.

I just wanted to know if they will stand up to my learning experience?

As an after thought sorry if this needs to be in the throwing area but I figured since I'm more asking to the quality that it would be ok here.

I had one of the CS hawks, and bent the blade trying to chop some real hard wood. I'll admit, I can be too hard on certain tools, but the wood should have broken before the steel bent, IMO.
Like 1066VIK said, get extra handles. Lots of guys get their handles as replacments anyway, best price really. If you get two hawks, you can get more practice in throwing than walking.
I throw my two hawks here and there, both are solid steel construction, full tangs, with handle scales. Built tough, but quite heavy. In a short range, they are accurate and deliver a devistating blow. The more tradtional wooden handled hawks will throw much eaiser, go further (without dropping), and the mass of the head increases it's chance of sticking in the target. At least that's my experience.
Have fun!

I can do that, why is that better?

It allows the head to move on the handle as it gets tighter and loosed from moisture IMO and stops stress in that area.

I would prefer a head to bend rather than break. It can usually be bent back into shape. Second the spare handles and fit them to the hawk in advance. I prefer H&B Forged Hawks but did start out with some lesser cast ones. They will work fine for the money.

thank for the advice guys, unfortunity i will have to wait a while for the hawks...budget is used up lol i will keep in mind the advice and probably refernce this once it comes time again to buy.
