Hello Sir, I am a novice Becker fan and I was wondering if you ever thought about a "Beckerized" Kephart design for your line of knives? Thanks for your time.

You mean kind of like the 16?

No, like the Dubz did a rendering on. Spearpoint, dramatic. FFG.

The 16 FFG is close, but that tip would have to drop about 3/8". Maybe 1/4" at the least.

Would the 12 be a consideration in this endevour? Just thinking out loud.

I'll shut up now.

Ahhhh, I get what you're giving. Bring the tip below center line instead of at or above.

Someone actually did a spear point BK 16 mod, I just cant find the dang thread. My google fu seems to be broken.

Hey Ron......

Da Moose pretty much has it......I know the Sixteen Amy not quite look Kephartish but, it is the knife I wanted that does the same tasks...... I would like to think it an improvement BUT, that would be heresy..... I too worship in the woodland church of Kephart and think him a major fount of wisdom........ I beg to differ in this instance mostly on aesthetic grounds...... A tiny change in blade outline rarely makes a huge difference........ I would like to think that Saint Horace of the Smokies and I would be pretty close to agreement after a modicum of his favorite corn squeezings, a good fire on a crisp evening, and a bowl of his favorite tobacco (I have been nicotine free for fifteen years but if I could have that evening I would buckle in an instant).........

I will get a 16 and a 9 and 2 and a........ I passed on the 14 that was sent to me to my son for his 17th birthday. He totally phreaked ! He has wanted a Becker for a long, long, time. He has already cord wrapped it and added it to his Boyscout kit. I have ordered a Kephart from a reputable maker from New York. I will add a 9 to my new kit as a heavy duty chopper. I hope I have not offended anyone by mentioning that. I have always wanted a Kephart and sheath made in the traditional style and way. I admit I don't know anything about Mr. Kephart himself. Are there any books you recommend Mr. Becker?

I don't think anyone could fault you for wanting a traditional style Kephart. Pairing it with a BK9 just mean you'll be covered for just about everything that could ever happen.

Hey Ron......

Horace Kephart wrote at the turn of the last century about life outdoors and specifically life in the Smokies..... Brilliant, knowledgeable and a damn fine writer, his book Camping and Woodcraft is one of the best tomes on the outdoors ever ....... His piece on why you should carry a compass is one of the best pieces out outdoor writing ever written....... You have only to change materials ( Nysilk for ballon cloth for example) to take much of his advice to heart as if was penned last week and not a century ago....... I keep a copy by in the smallest room in my house for daily prayer meetings....... He does describe a different era with a different ethos, at times but you will always learn a lot reading him...... Of those who came before, he is the most consistently readable and useful .........

I will see if I can find a copy on Amazon like I did when I found a book about an ancestor of mine. He was the first governor of New Mexico.

I found the book on ebay for a good price and I ordered it. I am looking forward to reading it and learning from Mr. Kephart 's teachings.
