this is regarding talonite...
I see an add in my magazine that says: "extreme wear resistance* NO HEAT TREATING REQUIRED* no corrosion* grinds easily*"

is it true that heat treating is not required?

if so, then how is it that its "easy to grind"?

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold the great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads...And His tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

IUBI,

Rob has been up to his "gump-stumps" and apparently hasn't seen your query, so let me attempt to answer you.

If you do a search in both the current and archived general forums you'll find a tremendous amount of material posted about Talonite (R). It is in fact age hardened and requires no heat treating. Being a cobalt chromium matrix it has an RC that is very deceiving. Stock removal is quite doable as the age hardening seems to have eliminated the "sticky" characteristic of the chemically similar alloy called Stellite (R). Stellite is known to "eat" belts with an average size fixed blade requiring double figures to fashion from a billet. Talonite, on the other hand, requires considerably less (usually 1 to 4 belts), and so can be termed easy to grind.

Check both www.simonichknives.com and www.carbideprocessors.com for further information.
