What pattern was the first production (as opposed to one-off made to order) Case pocket knife?

Does anyone know, or has this information been lost to history? I tried a web search; no relevant results.

I am far from a Case expert, but do enjoy reading about and acquiring Case knives. In Steve Pfeiffer's book, Collecting Case Knives, he mentions several patterns as going back to the early days of Case, but never states that any specific pattern was first. An example would be the basic pattern 02 Jackknife - very early design, but I think your guess that the "first" pattern knowledge is lost to history is correct. OH
Ps If you like the history of Case you would enjoy that book.

I would highly recommend this book too.

As I don't own the book they are talking about I too have looked this up and have kinda came to the conclusion it is lost lost to history. On that note I do know as stated above the jack knife was one of the earliest patterns.

Fishhunter, your question prompted me to fish this 1974 Case 6214 1/2 out of my fish box and carry it for a few days. OH

As Maxwel Smart used to say ... "Sorry about that ..."
Nice knife. I'll bet it was getting bored in the fish box.

Great question, and I'm going to subscribe to this thread.

I want to echo my fondness for the book, I saw the section edition at a famous book nook store ;), it had some pretty good information on the new Bose annual collaborations. I loaned the book to a friend of the family that claims to have a huge Case collection.

I've posted the question with the Case community. I will post the answer if there is one. Katie Shonts is the official Case historian and archivist. Maybe she can find out.

Thanks Randy - hard to believe that knife has Delrin handles - Case had the best jigging for Delrin back in the 1970's, it's okay today, but it was great back then. OH

Duncan - my "fish box" might give a false picture of where my EDC's are stored - several years ago my daughter gave me smoked salmon for Christmas, it shipped from Seattle in a very nice, well made wooden box with Northwest Indian fish totems painted on the lid (it's about the size of a big cigar box) - it is now my knife storage box and holds 20 assorted pocketknives. OH
