I have seen/read many things here, but I was wondering if any of you had tried a full size double bit on a cruiser haft? If so, how did it swing/cut? If not, would it be a good idea?
I know I think outside the norm, but I think some of you do too. Just curious to see what y'all think about it.

The eye is usually larger on a full-size axe so I don't know how a factory made cruiser handle would fit. Otherwise I don't see why it couldn't be done. I've put a couple larger single bits on short handles so they pack better in the truck and snowmobile. Nice for clearing a down tree off the road but not for long sessions.

The eye on a full size 10"+ double bit is larger that the eye on a 8.5" cruiser head. So a 28" cruiser haft wouldn't fit a full size DB.
I've seen 30" full size double bit handles and I've thought about trying it. But I haven't done so yet. I think it could be a sweet little combination.

You can get a 30" DB handle from HouseHandle.com and the axe handle guy on Ebay.

I have put some 3 1/4 pound maine diamond eye double bits on 28" cruiser handles. They came out pretty good but haven't really put them to the test. I would mention that these double bits are not as wide as 10" from bit to bit.

Big axes on short handles are clunky. It's more difficult to generate the speed needed for them to work efficiently. A light axe on a longer handle works fine, though. A 30" handle would be OK but I wouldn't go shorter than that.

I found a Dunlap db full size that I put a 28 inch handle on took some work to size down the handle. Used it for a year as a car camping axe worked good for splitting and bucking but as others have said not good for larg amounts of work Hence why I gave it away.
