I own a great folder, BG42 CF Military, that has served me extremely well. But when my Ti military arrived, I've been having diffilcuties in deciding if I want to retire my old military. For those of you who share the same dillema, what did you do ? :D

Do you have a ti/cpm4 on preorder? What will you do:confused::D

I'm not a real big fan of the Ti flavor. Its heavier and less grippy than the standard version, and the engagement of frame lock is more difficult than the liner lock. From my perspective, the the G10 version is superior. I do have a G10/Ti on pre-order. I could envision selling both the Ti and G10/Ti after I get my hands on it. That being said, I am a big fan of the regular G10 version, and have about half a dozen of them in various colors and configurations.

I have a CPM D2 Military & ordered on the first day for the CPM4 Ti Military so I'm loving the delima of which to carry, freedom of choice, you gotta love it. Ruff Cobb

It wasn't any dilemma for me. I treasure my TiRIL Military, but I carry and use my S90V/CF Military every day. In my opinion, the TiRIL model is a huge step in the wrong direction.

Used to pre-order the M4 version, but cancelled it and went with the full Ti instead. Yes, it is significantly heavier, but it's just too nice to just sit in my safe. Decision.....decision..... :D

The regular military is so light that I even hardly feel the weight in my pocket !

Yab why do you think the TiRILis a huge step in the wrong direction?

I'd also be interested in hearing Yab's point of view.

I think the newer Ti Military with the convexed/anodized surface looks really fresh. Ti slabs that large do benefit by adding a little texture. Personally, I would love to see a continuation of using various steels on the Military, maybe add some blue G10 and a 3V blade. That would definitely be something that would be in my pocket daily, hands down.

I'm not a big fan of the all Ti Millie either - give me a G10 variant any day. I love how it looks and it seems very strong but it just doesn't feel like a Military anymore in the all Ti version.

I feel that way because I agree with the original philosophy of the Military. It was designed from the beginning to be strong, but as light as possible. That's why the Walker liner lock was selected, because it could be made strong enough without being heavy. That's why it started with only one partial liner and a plastic backspacer. That's why even today the liners are only partial, and skeletonized at that.

Compared to the carbon fiber versions, the Ti version feels like a brick in the pocket. After using the G-10 and CF versions daily for the last few years, the balance feels wrong on the Ti version as well. Altogether, I feel that it throws away the best features of the model for the sake of snob appeal. "Oooooh, titanium!" So what. Another handle that feels too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, is too slick when it gets wet and leaves moving parts exposed under my fingers.

If mine hadn't been a gift, I wouldn't have it.

Yab thanks for your thoughts! You are right about the orginal design & the weight factor and cool/snob appeal.

+1 on everything said except I only have 3 G10s...otherwise those could have been my words.

I think the big full flat ground blade in M4 steel with Spyderco's heat treat will be well worth having even if the RIL Ti slab accentuates the bloated aspects of the Military's handle design. Might not be my EDC, but it'll be a good knife to have around.

I'd hang on tight to that BG42 CF Military, that's a sweet knife.

While i dont have a Ti millie, i do have two CF millies (S90V and S30V) and i think the weight factor of the ti millie has kept me from buying one..think they are plenty strong with the liner lock and the weight of them is what keeps then in my pocket...but i do think i would like to own a ti millie, but i only like to buy stuff i know ill carry...

I love the way the TI Millie looks, but it may be snob appeal, you're right. It will be my first Military so we shall see.

I liked my Ti Military when it was full titanium. I like it more now that I swapped the nonlocking scale to G10 and had it drilled tip up. The weight never bothered me as I never owned a G10 Military and before the Ti Military, I was EDCing a Chinook 3.

I like the heft of the Ti-Millie quite a bit - makes it more useful I think. It's certainly not overly heavy and the titanium is perfectly grippy (along with the venerable "Military" ergonomics).
I'm a big fan of G-10, but the titanium version might be my favorite.
