A question for Yellowhorse collectors

I hope that there are Yellowhorse collectors out there that can give me some information about the knife I bought at the blade show in Pasadena, Ca. early this year. The Damascus blade has a date symbol indicating that it was made in 1990, but David was't sure when he did this one. I haven't seen many around with the rearing horse inlay, but maybe they are more common that I've seen.

Any information about the knife would be appreciated.

I am betting he did it Post 1990 :D:D

Seriously, with there being a serial number on the blade under his sig, hard to believe he doesn't have a record of it.

Dave,

Check out the 1991 Buck catalog on the BCCI site!

I bought the knife from someone else at the show. David was there but he didn't have records with him. I could have probably sent him and e-mail later and found out about the knfe.

This is one of six editions that David did in the early 1990's using damascus bladed 110's. As I recall, this one is termed the "Mustang" as opposed to the more common "Running Horse" that you see on the 112. I can't remember all the other five editions right now, but I know there is also an Eagle, Deer, and Ram Head. I'll look through my YH literature when I get home this evening and edit this post to include the others. All are serialized and were mostly sold as a set of six (with the same serial number) in a wooden case. As I recall, the set retailed back then for around $3,500 to $4,000. A few extras were sold individually in smaller wooden cases, which I think is what you have, for around $500 each and many sets have now been broken up as well so you now see a number of individual knives for sale. While they are not real common, there are certainly not rare either. My favorites have always been the Mustang and the Eagle.

Mine is #0230. Do you know how many of each were made? The catalog itself doesn't say.

In my Yellowhorse-Buck Knife List I found this informations:

model type: 110Y2
description: 110 Damascus, Mustang "rearing horse"
month/year first appeared: 12/90 for 1991
retail price when offered: $469.98
quantity made: 286

This list I detected last year on the MSN Groups board and I think it was published by D. Yellowhorse himself, but I´m not absolutely sure.
Unfortunately MSN Groups service has closed since October 2008.

Very helpful, thank you very much.

The six in the series are as follows: (1). Mustang, 286 made, 469.98$ suggested retail; (2). Ram Head, 122 made, $480; (3) Leaping Deer, 344 made, $469.98; (4) Eagle, 279 made, $480; (5) Coyote w/Moon; 138 made, $480; (6) Elk Head, 194 made, $480. All were made in 1990/1991. I think the early serial number knives when into the set of six, while later ones were sold individually.
