Well, I'm usually one of the riffraff in General Knife, so I'll try to be on my best behavior, and not blow my nose on the drapes.

I've recently developed an interest in spear-point jack style knives, especially those with wood covers and long pull nicks. Bolsters are nice, but not necessary.

The problem is, when I search the usual used-knife sales places (mostly that auction site) for "jack knife", "spear point jack", "bolstered jack", or any similar thing, the back-end software doesn't know what to make of that.

I'm hoping you folks can help me with company names (I already know I like Schatt & Morgan/Queen Cutlery/I don't know how closely they're associated) or other search terms that will help me find relevant sales, without having to wade through pages and pages of "damascus".

Thanks in advance.

GEC will be expensive but you can search that on US ebay (we cant in the UK).

Try searching old knife makes like Case or Taylors eye witness and see what that produces as the knives may be described wrong anyway.

Does this link I put GEC Spearpoint?

I deleted the link I dont think we are allowed to,try a search yourself.

You will have best luck searching for GEC patterns that often (but not always) have a spear point, like the 86, 85, 35, 53, 54 and similar models.

Have you looked on the trading subforum here?
PS Ive always wondered what ebay would spew up if I searched 'cheap tacky looking mall ninja knives '...
Good hunting..

Spearpoint and long pull.

Since jack knife and pen knife are what most people call all of these traditional knives no matter what the pattern, I've found it's easier to search for a specific company or model number and just syphon through the results.

Try looking through the threads here and find some things you like, then you can search for them specifically.

You may have luck looking for one of these. 2015 Tuna Valley made by Queen, easy-open teardrop pattern with spear blade, with long pull. Not any wood handles though, only stag, horn, or mammoth. The red burl wood handle was a 1 piece prototype.

Search for French, Spanish, Czech, and German brands, and look for them.

Hundreds of cutlery companies went under between 1929 and 1939~1940. A web search for "knife brands that folded during the depression" might bring up some to look for.

There was also a large hardware store in St. Louis, Mo. that had a line of knives. I am having an old timer's brain fart, and cannot think of the name A.T.M.

Good luck in your search. 😁👍

OH! And welcome to the Traditionals rabbit hole. 😁 .

Wow! Thankya. I've been dabbling in modern traditionals for a while, as well as electrician-pattern knives.

GEC/Tidioute/Northfield (Northfield's stuff is tops) being so blasted expensive (relative to my paycheck, anyway), is what caused this post.

The initial cost of your first GEC is nothing compared to the cost of your next ten or twelve GEC’s. This is fair warning 😉

If you want something traditional but with more modern look and materials, also try Lionsteel, Viper, fox knives...

The vintage pre-depression ("real") Tidioute and Northfield are kinda rare, but very high quality.
I don't know what the "collector" market has done to the prices of the before Bill Howard was a twinkle in his mommy's eye knives.
I would guess they are not precisely "inexpensive" ... unless you have a income comparable to or higher than say ... Billy Gates in his prime ... perhaps.
Still, they might cost less than the GEC made? Might be more of the vintage ones available, at any rate.😁👍
