Being new to traditionals and GEC I was wondering about how GEC releases their knives. Do they release annual, or regular, releases of their most popular patterns? What sort of variations typically occur between releases? I am specifically interested in the 48 series as I have one and I am hoping that knife is re-released again in the future.

They release batches of knives. That's about the only organization pattern I've seen to their production. Fortunately, they have started to release the production schedule so that we can see what's coming up. GEC also produces knives for other companies under contract, they don't release that production information generally, and they don't tell us much if anything about the specific timing of the production schedule; which is in need of an update.

Your best bet is to stay abreast of the production schedule and the new release page.

Love to see them release a Scout pattern with spearpoint, awl, bottle opener, & a can opener.

My heart just skipped a beat :)

If you'd said 'and corkscrew' I'd have had to clutch my chest :D

Some forum knife tht would be!!

joebob gives a good synopsis of the gec act. i would mention that recently some of their predicted numbers of models fell short due to unforeseen problems. as most gec collectors are aware the labels they put on their bone releases are a dice roll . i believe i have 4 antique amber bones that are different as nite & day. a good forum pic of each bone release is the most reliable indicator of what you are going to order.
