A question on weight for EDC

As I've said in other threads I EDC my BK9. I've gotten used to the weight, I don't even notice it most of the time, and it comes in handy enough to warrant continued carrying of it.

But the situations in which the BK9 will be useful for work related matters are growing smaller and smaller as the seasons change and the weather grows colder. We don't need to hack our way through underbrush and overgrown trees to get to air conditioners to service them, and most trailers in the area don't have trees blocking the outside water heater doors. As winter sets in the most I can foresee myself needing will be my new BK17, which can hold my new Leatherman Rebar easy enough. The 17 also rides closer to the body and better inside the coat so the cold will affect it less than a larger blade; not that it gets far below -30 most winters, but still, it's something to consider.

Unfortunately as I've said, I've gotten accustomed to the approximately two pounds of weight the BK9, sheath and small tools amounts to. At most the BK17/Rebar combo weighs a pound and a half. And that extra half pound of weight makes a lot of difference, as I've learned from unsuccessfully trying to carry my Leatherman with the BK9. I'm concerned that a long winter and part of spring will uncondition my body to the weight, and switching back will cause back trouble until I adapt over again.

Does anybody else experience such concerns when it comes to seasonal appropriate fixed blade EDC? And if so, what do you do about it?
