A question on wet forming

Hello everyone, I was needing some help on making a sheath. I just finished a leather sheath for my GEC by wet forming. I am very happy with the results. I would say it turned out good. My question is, after it dried there is some small discoloration or uneven color matching from where the leather was wet and stretched as compared to the parts that were not stretched. I hope that makes sense. I figure this is natural. I applied two coats of Neatsfoot oil over a 24 hour period. I am not really that worried about it. I like my sheaths to have the worn weathered look anyway. I was just wondering if I could have a uniform color as the end result if I wanted to. Thank you and God bless.

Yes. Just make sure the entire sheath is the same dampness. Wetting only a portion will yield splotchy coloring.

Thanks Horsewright, that makes sense. I cut out a rough pattern and soaked it in cold water for 4-5 minutes then started forming. I will try to keep the section wet as I am forming it next time. I have learned a lot from your posts as well as the other members here.

Hi Dave,
I like your design on the pouch sheath. Am I correct that the single slot holds the sheath to the belt loop and takes the place of the loop on the sheath? It looks like the slot is slightly angled for carry position.

Pretty much....

The knife and sheath are held in place by the pants belt and goes through to hold its position. Like this but picture the belt coming out the loop and over the sheath and back into the pants belt loop:

There are two of my sheath styles represented in that photo. One I call the Slotted sheath and the other the Slot and Loop, they carry different. The only differenece is the Slot and Loop does have a loop on the back side. So Druid is correct on the Slotted sheath it does carry as his pic illustrates.

This is kind of a cool design in that literally it can be carried 360 degrees on the belt. Behind the right hip is a great place too.

Here is a pic of me wearing my own personal Slot and Loop sheath.

On the back side of the sheath a simple 5/8" x 4.5" strap is riveted to the sheath body. So the belt passes through the slot and then through the loop.

How about here? Same sheath type:

Neat thing about the Slotted sheath it will go anywhere on your belt. I'd always envisioned it as a crossdraw and we were branding one day. A buddy had come to help and he had moved his Slotted sheath back to behind the right hip due to portliness. Man he was slick getting it in and out of there when neded. So then I had to rethink the whole deal.

Cool, I seldom see the FB, Nichole handles that. I'm the instagram dude.
