Hey there. I recently picked up a brand new 2021 GEC 71 BullNose 715121 in red micarta from ebay. It was brand new, just so that is out of the way. When i unpackaged it, the F&F USA birds eye outer pivot collar was perfectly centered, after a few days of very moderate use the pivot collar is now rotated about 30 degrees to the left, its in the same position on both sides. Im not sure how the 71's are put together but seeing that I assume it is one solid collar pressed all the way through the handles and blade. The knife is still solid, no change. Zero blade play, and the action and centering are unchanged. Aesthetically it doesnt bother me. I'm just curious if this is common on 71's, this is my first one. Is it nothing to fret over or is it indicative of further problems down the road? Hope I hear something back. Thanks for your time. Take care.

Just an observation since you are new here, you might want to look into a less offensive user name if you are planning on hanging around here long term. The traditional sub forum usually aims for a pretty g-rated tone.

I don't have any particular advice on the bullnose front, but I feel like aesthetic changes in user knives are pretty normal.

No. Im not changing my username. There's nothing offensive about it. If you're offended that easily you probably shouldn't be on the internet. I already said in the post that I wasnt bothered by it aesthetically. Thanks. For what I'm not sure, just criticizing me I guess? Take care.

not sure on the bullnose but have had lockback pins on factory knives and customs rotate around on me. A single drop of clear superglue puts a stop to it. Welcome to bladeforums. I’m not offended, I agree, use your stuff! Haha

I'm pretty sure the pivot collars are either glued or held in place by the friction created when they peen or press the pivot pin. If there isn't any blade play (side to side movement or up and down movement) then the pivot rotation is probably just cosmetic. If there is play in the blade, you could hammer the pivot pin and get it back to the proper tightness--just make sure to go one or two swings at a time or you will tighten it too much and have to loosen it again.

Clearly no reason to continue interacting. Have a pleasant life.

Thank you. I think it would be smartest to contact GEC for a repair before I try it myself but I do appreciate the response and a do it yourself attitude! Like you said, as long as blade play doesnt develop I should probably just stop thinking about it. Take care man!

That's good to know, I've only owned 3 GEC's so far so my knowledge and experience is shallow. The way you hear people talk about them on forum's and in YouTube videos youd think they were all flawless. I'm glad it isn't a rarity to get a flaw, puts me at ease slightly. If blade play doesnt develop I think i should probably just ignore it. With all of that being said, I'm very impressed with the quality of GEC's, they make case and boker look like $15 rough riders, still love all 3 of those brands tho lol. I'm glad you weren't offended by my username, I thought it was funny and pretty true honestly. Most people don't actually use most of their knives.Take care man!

I think that is relatively common. That is why the pivot pin on many knives becomes visible after use, because it will rotate a bit. A blade with a bushing in the pivot will rotate on the bushing and the pin won’t move and won’t become visible. Sounds like a nonissue to me and I doubt GEC will do anything about it.

Thanks for explaining that to me, I wasnt sure how they put them together. I think its a non issue as well, I was just curious. I hadn't seen any pictures of rotated collars on any 71's or seen any rotated in videos or talked about on forum's so I thought maybe I had a problem. Theres no blade play so I think im alright. Take care!

I'm glad to hear that. That seems to be what I'm experiencing, I had a guy clue me in further down on how they put the 71's together. The blade rotates on the collar and the pin in the center just keeps everything tight and from falling apart. I think the collar is just ever so slightly lose and able to freely rotate and shutting the blade caused it to rotate a little. Thanks for the welcome! I'll try the super glue if it keeps rotating, good tip. Theres no blade play so I dont think theres a problem. Ive never seen one that wasnt perfectly lined up so I was concerned. Im glad you werent offended by my username, I thought it was humorous and a subtle jab at people that don't use most of their knives, I think thats so silly. If there's a few nice pieces you dont use alright, thats understandable, but people get neurotic. Take care man!
