A question to all the strippers out there

Hey everyone,

I am curious about stripping a knife and had a quick question. Of those that have successfully done it, did the "Busse Combat" logo stay on the blade after a chemical strip?

Or, do you recommend sanding it down and saying the hell with the logo? (I really want a stripped knife with the logo, if at all possible).

Thanks,

Sometime yes, sometime no.

I have 2 chemically stripped Sarsquatches : one you can see the "Busse Combat" logo, the other one you cannot. Both had the "Busse Combat" logo at the beginning.

I'm thinking about stripping my HG, I think the CBT's will look cool in satin. How much work is involved to polish once the outer coating is off?

1. Use a paint striper first.

2. See what the steel looks like.

3. Decide if you need to polish the steel or not.

you are gonna have a hard time sanding a satin finish on the HG with CBTs.. you will be able to polish the peaks but not the dips... naked infi has it's own charm anyway... remember that when you satin a blade you have to remove precious INFI

yes yes and yes. however, as said sanding takes it off pretty fast. I would suggest using 600-2000 grit sand paper to clean up the steel under the coating once it's stripped, cause a rough finish can become rust prone. It depends on whether you want it to look pretty, or work hard. look pretty = 2000 grit sand paper to smooth it out a bit, won't take off the logo at all. work hard = 200 grit working your way up so that you can sand rust off it later and not feel bad about it.

light-medium sanding (600-2000 grit):

That cord wrapped handled knife is sweet especially after the stripping.

Going to be tough to get down in the grooves. I think some guys have used stainless wire brushes to clean up naked INFI.
