Forgive the profound ignorance, but...

I know how to get the coating off of INFI or SR101. Is there anything I need/should/could to do afterward to protect the bare metal (keep it fairly stain resistant)? Does bead blasting only function to enhance the appearance of the metal, or does it also enhance stain resistance?

Thanks folks.

Actually, I was going to use Circa 1850 to get it off. But what comes after that as far as blade maintenance?

bead blasting if done normally will actually tend to lower its stain resistence by causing a surface wide pitted state (i think...). if you double bead blast it and go all out to get it ultra smooth, im not sure. busses dcbb finish is first satin finished, then double bead blasted to get it as smooth and even as possible.

satin finishing, while not a stain resistent finsish, allows you to hit it with sand paper any time rust shows up.

if you do a patina, it will cover some of the surface with non malignant black rust, helping to lower its rust prone.... ness....

i dont know what im talking about. anyone else actually know about these things???

im used to just satin finishing everything so i can hit it with sand paper and make it easy.

if your going to store it, or if its a general utility blade you should oil it every now and again. but if its used a lot, that will only go so far, as the rubbing of your cutting material will strip it away.

I have a bare blade and don't really take to much care about it and stain is no issue. I just keep the blade clean and don't let it sit wet.
I believe bead blasting does have very little effect for the stain resistance.
I would not bead blast the blade with aluminium oxide since it makes the surface pretty rough, use glas or plastic grain this makes a smooth, dull surface But you should oil the blade slightly afterwa rds. Otherwise you will see every fingerprint on the blade.
