I just got my dui chirra by Bura with the extended tool kit.

What is the little tube of leather with the frills that is inserted inside of the, (what I think is the) tender-pouch?
IS that BIG but VERY soft pouch that looks like a sheath for a 6" knife the tender pouch?

Also I thought the button hook was one of the loop things that was used to button old shoes and boots, but this thing looks like a little tiny scraper...
What and HOW is it used...

This is my first HI and it is VERY nice...

Thanks for any help!

If I had to guess. I'd say it was a button to hold a striking steel for the tinder pouch. Hope this helps.

It is a BIG(over 1.5 inch diameter) tube 2.5 inch long.
Every steel I have ever seen is so small it would fall right through it!

Unless it is for the OLD 'C' shaped fire steel that you use with a flint!

I think the "tube" holds the tinder, and maybe also the flint, and then goes in the pouch.

You're going to laugh, but the tool you ask about is for cleaning the wax out of your ears.

Steve

It is OPEN on BOTH ends.

I realize the Kamis know a lot about metal and ergonomics, but I'm not sticking that tool in my ears....

Makes perfect sense to me. Q-tips cost money.

What the kit needs is a backscratcher.

I thought that was what that BIG metal thing in the main compartment was for!;)

Okay, I'm NEVER going to buy one of these used.

You'd probably reconsider if wax was dripping out of your ears like a cheap birthday candle. :) ;)

No, Bura picked that up from a crashed flying saucer. He puts one in each kit now but nobody knows what it's for. It might be a control handle of some sort, made for smaller hands.

It's still the tender pouch. If it were sealed on three sides it might draw moisture or not let moisture out, I don't know about now but I read where the old Inuit deerskin sleeping bags were open at two ends for the same purpose.

The earwax tool is also supposedly a surgeon's tool to probe and remove bullets with.;)

I wouldn't want someone poking around inside of me with an earwax encusted tool. ;) :)

What keeps the tinder from falling through into the bottom of the DEEP rear sheath?

Another question...

How do you wear this one? ... It does not have any type of belt loop like the other ones have...

An old manner of wearing the khukuri was to stick it in the sash. The scabbards worn this waw sometimes had a button to help keep it from slipping down.

This from the faq

In this painting from about 1770, Prithivi Narayan Shah, king of Gorkha, founder and king of Nepal, and organizer and commander of the first Gorkha fighting force, is shown carrying his khukuri in his sash.
