A question if I might. Is there anything one can do to put in a good word for someone who has been banned? In this case I am in particular referring to Old_Soldier who it seems was banned for spamming??? I've been out of pocket for a week so I don't really know all the ins and outs nor have I even found the thread in question, but I can say that to the best of my knowledge Old_Soldier has been a productive member around here for quite some time and I've valued his opinions and insights as have others. I don't think he would deliberately spam this forum so I was hoping to put in a good word for him? Perhaps it makes no difference but I just thought I would say something.

Respectfully, I second the good word part. He is/was a kind and helpful guy, and IMO, not too familiar with the Internets and / or the smiley thingamabobs (he's about 70 y/o )

I should have noted that as well. He's also spent about 30 years of that time working for the military and or the CIA so he actually is an "old soldier." After he retired he went into teaching grade school. He's a pretty decent human being.

I think he may not have known those ads would come along with the smileys. Could you have another look at this case, Spark?

When I saw this go down my first thought was " I bet O.S. has no idea what just happened."

With all due respect, I agree with the guys who think maybe another look should be given to the Old_Soldier's case. I remember the post when he first linked to some smiley site, and he was all excited about learning how to link to external sites. I honestly don't think he was deliberately spamming. I certainly didn't agree wit him all the time but he's an informed and level-headed poster and I think he's an asset to the Bladeforums.

If it is possible that there be a reconsideration, I respectfully add my request to these others.

Sometimes folks get banned for spamming, and sometimes they get a warning first. Maybe this is one of those times when a warning is in order.

I would tend to agree that an exception should be made in his case. Although I do understand the reason for his banning, I think that he is not particularly net-savvy, and based on his posts, I would believe that he is mortified to find out that his fascination with the smilies is considered spamming. In general, he is a thoughtful, productive member of the forums. I am also asking Spark for a second chance in his case. Thanks for listening.

It looks like O.S. had his problems within 2 hours. One post right after the other.
He might not have even realized he had a done something wrong until it was to late.

I would like to think of OS is somewhat like me, semi computer literate, he probably did not think of what he was really doing. Perhaps a reinstatement with warning would suffice. He probably did not do as Spark once suggested to me. "Think twice, Post Once". Give the old guy a chance. I have caused the Mods much more trouble, and I am still here.

Just my two cents,
James

I would also like to see Old Soldier return. He was a long time good contributor to the forums and I suspect not spamming on purpose.

Does someone have an email for Spark? I wouldn't mind sending him one about this case.

I would like to add my name to the "He's a good man" side. Intelligent, helpful,
insightful. He deserves to return.

Anyone know if Spark is on vacation or something, so far no reply here or on the email...
