I forged up two 405 layer damascus billets on Wed and this is what came out of one of them.
The chatoyance I got out of the final forging with the power hammer, in conjunction with manipulation from the hand hammer, was just fantastic.
I just got it etched and wanted to share it with you guys.
(Not a bad piece of Ironwood in the background either!)

What's up with the dark line by the edge on the obverse?

It draws the eye in a displeasing manner compared to the top vignette.

Best Regards,

It's just a layer of 1084 that somehow got rather accentuated in my photo editing when I "sharpened" the image.
It is slightly larger than the remaining layers, but the blade will get hot-blued when I'm done as well.
It'll blend in quite nicely.
It doesn't look nearly like that in the real world.

I really like that chatoyant effect that you have chieved with this blade.

Oh! I remember now!
I left that layer in there so you could follow the blade shape as I forged it.
Yep.
That's it.
Yep.

Awesome Karl, glad to see you moving in this direction. That is going to look killer with some of your blackwood handle material and blued fittings (hint hint :))
