I got out of a training class a little early today and did a quick hike to get a chance to use my JK Sparkler that I won at the Fall Gathering recently (Thanks again, the contest was a lot of fun JK). I didn't have a lot of time but I was able to build a small fire just to test this little gem out.

First, some Sparkler glam shots..

The materials in the background were gathered with the help of the Sparkler on the way in. It is a small knife but fits the hand well. Very easy to use.

I also brought along my JK Misch steel with JK striker, both gifts from the past two gatherings.....

and the great German Butter Tank Tinder Kit, kindly put together by JDS1.

I brought this Mora Triflex Bushcraft along but really didn't get a chance to use it. I like the grip and it's got a great edge.

The sun was telling me it was time to head home....

and I saw this guy as I walked out.

The notch in the Sparkler really worked well, I tried the edge, spine and notch and the notch threw the best sparks of the three. I just wish I had a little more time but I hope to get out again soon.

Yeah, it was actually warm at my house today! I was actually sweating! Ha! Ha! I can do that walking across the room! My driveway actually melted off and pretty much dried up! Haaaaaa! Just in time for the next big storm! They say we will get 3-6 but, I never count on what they tell me until it is all over. I guess north of us is supposed to get the brunt of it!

Nice fire Bud!

Later!

Weather is so fun to try and figure. My wife's best friend lives in Kansas, & it is almost a certainty whatever she gets we usualy have 2-3 days later. Once this year we had 3 to 4 days of 70*+ and the next day it was in the 30's. Only in Ohio, shorts in the morning, down jacket in the evening . . . :)
Thanks for the great knife shots & taking us along.
Be safe.

That light was kind of tricky to shoot pics in. I do like how the Sparkler "sparkles" in that second pic though.

This is a nice knife. I really like that John rounded the area where your finger goes rather than his typical square edge notch. I thought maybe John did not do this because he did not have the correct tool.

Also the striker could be moved to the risco area and might blend in better than on top of the blade, although I'm okay with it where it is.
