Greetings all,

What with a knife show in the morning and seeing the movie "300" in the afternoon I definitely on a testosterone overload. I'll try to keep the cussing, spitting and scratching to a minimum and just show you a few pics from the Canadian Knifemakers Guild show that is running today and tomorrow in Toronto. Not a detailed show review (I regrettably only had an hour to spend this morning, but will return tomorrow).

First stop was the table of Brian Lyttle, where I was immediately captivated by this very cool sword:

Brian had put together a neat shoulder rig - very handy:

I had a hard time putting this one down once I picked it up:

(Please note the de rigeur mall ninja black ensemble. :o )

Some more of Brian's awesome bladeware:

Next up was thetable of Canadian bladesmith Christoph Deringer. Her is the man himself holding a very nice rustic bowie:

That number in the middle is actually a throwing knife with an armor-piecing point. Tres cool.

My Man Kirby Lambert holding one of his excellent folders:

And a closer look at the knife:

.... more to follow

Paul Savage had this excellent forged utility blade with a very graceful recurve and exceptionallt comfortable maple handle. This one was a great deal:

Some Brian Tighe awesomeness:

My absolute favorite piece from the show was this chopper / cleaver / bushwhacker blade from Antoine Marcal - character and functionality in spades:

Always a highlight is Murray White's display of (a small portion of) his collection. The theme for today was forged blades (in my honour, I am sure :-)) Tomorrow a completely different grouping will be featured.

And a slick folder by Randy Doucette:

Now, off to drink some whiskey and grab me a wench.

That cleaver by Marcal looks awesome. I'm liking the Paul Savage recurve too. Looking forward to more pics.

You have already done with pictures, what I try to do with words.

Have fun!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Roger, I love when you do that.... ;) :p

Excellent. Three questions:

1. Are those prices shown Canadian dollars?

2. What's that little thing going on, on the end of Antoine's blade?

3. Are these photos from your Canon SD700IS shirtpocket camera? :)

Thanks Roger! I enjoyed this! Is that Warren Thomas in the background in the first Pic.,? Mike

Three questions:

1. Are those prices shown Canadian dollars?

Yep. :-)

2. What's that little thing going on, on the end of Antoine's blade?

I didn't ask, but I believe it is a stylistic bit of carving at the top of the spine toward the tip. The blade is inspired by a number of ethnic Southeast Asian designs.

3. Are these photos from your Canon SD700IS shirtpocket camera? :)

You betcha!

Mike - there isn't anyone in the background of the first pic. If you meant the Kirby Lambert pic, that's Greg Lightfoot in back.

Cheers,

Roger

Roger,
Thanks for this!
Murray's knives never cease to amaze.
The throwing knife:cool:   with airborne skull crusher is particularly interesting and quite striking.
As well as all the rest.
Great pics.

Doug

I like that Jpz style dagger from Mr. Lyttle. I also like Murray's Howard Clark / Revishvili dagger. I remember when Howard put the blade up for sale, at a pretty low price IIRC. Murray had the vision of how to put the package together, and the result is superb.

Thanks gents. Just a couple more pics. Today was a nice relaxing affair with a good opportunity to chat with all the good people at the show.

Murray's display theme today was art knives, and an terrific display it was:

James McGowan had a nice line-up. Last year I meant to pick up one of those cute little Kiridahis like the one at far left. Dithered about and missed out. Fixed that this time:

I've seen a few Sebenzas over the years, but really enjoyed the opportunity to see a broad representation of the entire line, afforded by my buddy Neil Ostroff of True North Knives.

Both of these really tempted me:

Murray sure has a great collection. Brian Lyttle and Christoph Derringer are a couple of my favorite makers. I am going to have to look a little closer at the work of Antoine Marcal.

It would be pic #2, of Brian Lyttle, looks like Warren by the back wall by the painting. Mike

Thanks so much for posting the pics Roger! They're great!
It was great seeing you again at the CKG show...also, thanks again for continuing to help support and promote the Canadian Guild!
Hey, you should also post the pics of the knife you made...the one you were showing Brian Lyttle and myself!! Extremely impressive for your first knife!!!

Kirby

Very cool. I really like Murray White's collection from the first day. Funny thing is that I have the sister of that Robbie Hudson hunter that is in the top left of the second shot:D Was the wire inlayed damascus bowie a Dean?

Mike - sorry - don't know who that is in the second pic.

Thanks gents!

Kirby - thanks - here's a pic of my KLO (knife-like object):
