A quick project yields a new traditional EDC

As some of you may know, I like to make stuff. I enjoy working with all sorts of materials, building all kinds of projects. Usually, I stay pretty busy, which makes it tough to find time to do a project that's just for myself.
Over the past couple days, I've had a little free time, and I happened to find this blade blank in the bottom of my old toolbox, so........ Here's what I came up with.

No idea what steel it is (some kind of stainless); the only marking is "Made in Spain" etched on the ricasso. The wood is either walnut or locust (I think), and was kickin' around my workshop. 1/8" steel rod for the pins. Mineral & linseed oil finish. Leather sheath cut from a piece of scrap I had laying about, laced with another piece of scrap leather.
The wooden handles are exactly 4" long, and the blade is 3 3/4" with a 3 3/8" cutting edge.

I'm happy with the result; it fits in my back pocket, and is a great size for a handy little sheath knife. I tried to contour the handle, giving it a bulge in the center and a wasp-waist at each end. Turned out to fit my hand rather well, giving a perfect pocket for the index finger to wrap around, in both forehand and reverse grips.

Alright, here are some pictures. Thanks for lookin'! :)
Alex

Very nice Alex, when you have some more free time can you come to my house:p

Paul

Nice. Handles remind me of the old CutCo knives.

It probably took 4 hours or so, spread over two days. The first day was a half hour on the band saw to rough out the wood, a couple minutes to cut lengths of steel rod for the pins, then assembly & gluing & clamping. Let the glue dry overnight, and the second day was a few hours of removing material. I used a belt sander/planer, a bench grinder, hand files & rasps, sand paper of varying grits, then steel wool. Oiled it really well, and done.
The sheath was probably another hour. It's nothing fancy; the only tools I used were my 2009 BFC Barlow and a hammer & punch.

Thanks, guys. :) Glad you like it!

Great work Alex. That turned out real nice.

I hope if gives you many years of service.

Nice work
(seems that you get carried away sanding those pins ;) )
i have same hobby as stress relief

Very nice! I love doing these kinds of projects too. It feels great to create things with your own hands and a few tools and materials. Awesome!

Thanks, guys! It's been a long while since I've had time for this type of project, but I hope this one serves as a shoe-horn to get me back into it. :)
