Tried on my old Carhartt "Artic" jacket and found its just as tight as I remember. Shoulda got a XL not an L, but I've always just delt with it. Anyways, was out doing some christmas shopping so I took a look at some jackets. Seems Carhartt is using Nylon on their arctic jacket now, though some are still made of the cotton duck. Just curious how the new material has treated people? Does it break in easier? More water repellant? Just plain old penny pinching?

toughnesswise- penny pinching. Comfortwise- breaks in faster, wears out faster.
Personally I'd take cotton duck over nylon any day, and Filson double oiled tin cloth over cotton duck. But that's just me. :D

I don't know that you can call it penny pinching, they are offering it as another option, not a replacement for the duck...

I think it's supposed to be more water repellant or something. I've never paid much attention because I think it's ugly.

It's called the artic extreme and it is the warmest carhartt I've ever owned. If you need to stay out in cold weather for extended periods its the one to get. It's actually 1000 denier cordura a very tough and abrasion resistant material, also great at repelling water.
