I keep saying I need to take some new pics so I went out to the woodpile this afternoon to try out the 2 I just got and the 12, which hasn't gotten any real burn yet. The 9 tagged along too.

The Ranger was in my pocket and I was wondering how well the file on this guy would be in the field as a course or backup sharpener if you managed to take some decent chunks off the edge. Haven't tried it yet myself but curious if anyone else has some experience with the SAK file or the LM file as a sharpener.

2 was up first.

I can't say I'm an experienced batoner but this wood was probably way too long for batoning and pretty gnarly anyway so I just couldn't get the 2 through it. 12 steps up.

Of course messing around like this I managed to cut my hand and busted one baton so the 9 steps up and shows why it's the king.

After the 9 brought this hunk of wood down to size, 12 steps back up because it is still too purty.

And I had to give the 2 a fair shot to see why its so popular.

2 and a half batons later I got a bit of natural patina on my freshly stripped 9 and knocked some of that purty off that like-new 12.

I'm trying to show some love and talk it up a bit. I haven't put it through too much yet but at 6 inches, it really is a tweener of sorts - shorter than the 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 but bigger than the other current production models and much bigger than most standard 3-4 inch blades. Then you got the practical drop point and the collaboration of three greats so I think it's a no brainer. It's not gonna chop like a 9 but it'll send some chips flying too and be a lot more versatile.

I also thought that if I got out and hiked more, it could be the big blade I carry and I could also carry a saw and probably still be lighter than carrying a 9 and cover all the tasks that I would want to have a 9.

I'm going to mod it a bit next after getting some inspiration from geektechnica so more bk12 love to come!

It's character building - for the knives and me! Lesson learned - wear some gloves when I'm gonna hack away like that.

Been seeing a lot of 12 love the last couple of days. Thanks for the review, looks like a fun day out
