So picked up a SYKCO 311 here on the forums. Knife was as stated and shipped in a timely manner so I am happy! However the knife was about as dull as a butter knife and I kid you not. The knife was as new too. Original finish to the edge. It was sharpened by Mike and inspected #38. My observation when sharpening first on my GATCO sharpening system which is fool proof, is that the left side of the blade edge did not match up with the right side of the blade edge. The left side was a perfect 22 deg and the right side even at 19deg was such a wide cantle off by many degrees as compared to the right side I just can't believe it. I mean the plunges look spot on for both sides. One doesn't appear off to one side when looking at the ricasso.
So figured that wasn't going to work so broke out a nice Norton coarse stone and marked both edges. After about an hour and I shite you all not I have the edges pretty close as to the same. But still only a wee bit better for sharpness than when received. So I am thinking back years ago I picked up a Swamp Rat Hornet or something like that as I recall. And if memory serves me correctly it was the same problem. Now this knife did not break the bank and was a fair bargain and am happy about that. I am all about the sharpness though as I am sure most folks here are. I am getting more into carry a small fixed blade on my hip as a folder in my pocket and some recent purchases I have made reflect that. As in a nice little Criswell I picked up and then bought a small handmade leather sheath for it that is just friggin perfect. The Criswell is all about cutting I'll say that but the SYKCO is all about the grip for me cause I have bad mitts. Grip is SUPERB. Sharpness well not so much. Maybe I'll contact them to use there sharpening service. Who knows but me hands hurt at the moment from all the sharpening I've done to it. I will say it is tough though. Anyways that's it, it's Platinum time. keepem sharp
