With BLADE Show coming so soon after the Spring Gatherings, I started cogitating about both and what both have come to mean to me.....

I have been going to the BLADE Show for over thirty years and have gotten to know a lot of the usual suspects in the industry and old customers and collectors, dealers and designers....... I have said often that I would rather spend an evening in the Pit Bar at the Waverly during BLADE than almost anywhere else.....

That being said, I gotta say that the Beckerhead gatherings have become a truly wonderful series of experiences for me.........These last two Gatherings have been such lovely times for me...... The West Coast Gathering was a grand time spent with great people having a good old time and I am so grateful to the people who came and shared themselves with the rest of us.....

This last Gathering in Tennessee saw those who have become friends join with new friends in an incredibly positive way....James Terrio's idea of a grind in was a damn good one and it was so gratifying to see so many, learn so much about our mutual passion for the blade...... I feel it a truism that every blade teaches us SOMETHING about the cutlery whole....... At times that may be that you never want another like that one....LOL.....Bur the negatives can be a positive experience......Anyway I digress..... The power I felt at this Gathering was a sweet power that, I Feel, really made all our efforts worthwhile..

So many of you travel so far to be here that I am always worried that you will feel cheated somehow...... This Gathering felt so damn good that I knew it was not a worry this time...... That feeling set in early and let me have one of the best times of my life......SOOOOOO....

THANK YOU ........

E

I think it was the best one yet. You do know how to do it right E.

That does it!
Becker Gatherings every weekend until the end of Summer! :D
It's always a pleasure Mr. Becker!

I had an absolute blast at this gathering, good folks, good food, good times. It's an odd excitement I feel before attending, one that only happens not near enough, and after getting there, there is no let down, it is a blast the entire time. I thank you Ethan for letting me share this event.

I can't speak for any of the other gatherings since this was my first one, but I can tell you it was well worth the trip for me. I had such a great time and met so many great people and getting to meet Ethan, the man who designed all my favorite knives, was just awesome.

I know I will do my best to be at all the gatherings for now on. I think we all learned so much from all the knowledge each person brought with them and had just an amazing time as well. Not to mention all the great food and drinks.

Ethan, you threw the perfect party! Thank you!

Being a Canadian, I've yet to be able to attend... It always bums me out. One of these years I'll be there, and I look forward to it.

Missed this gathering, but I have to say we were incredibly impressed with the food, skills training and overall hospitality of the previous Gatherings.

thats it, i am going to do what ever it it takes to go to the next gathering

 Good! Ethan has a soft spot for kids....LOL :p

My Dad had enough fun between the grind-in and the chopping contest, and the food, that he plans on taking my to everyone we can attend, so long as Psy can keep his pants on....;) And keep his chicken foot where it belongs....LOL

I can tell you, I had to most fun I've ever had in my memory. Period. The food alone was worth the trip! Moose taught me loads! He had some very good advise on chopping, and he took the time to show me the bow drill. Pointy was very helpful in the sharpening department. Learnt loads, also a very good Feather sticker, put me to shame with a piece of oak!

Ethan,
your initial hospitality and our ensuing friendship has meant a lot to me - as well as the other friendships I've made with folks met up on half moon ridge.
thank you for having the gatherings - and for being the you that you are.

Wish I could'a made it to the gathering. :(

Question, though...

Ethan, in the pics you're wearing a tan/coyote/dog t&&& brown vest w/ tons of pockets. Looks nicely utilitarian. What is that vest?

the only practical way for me to do a gathering is drive solo 999 miles

it's been worth it, but it's a rough drive, but i do get to to have 200 lbs of steel in the car :D

Eotac - no longer in business.
they made good vests, though
pants, too.

5.11 makes a similar vest. I have one and like it very much. Or, you could try doing a search for "photographer's vest" and may be able to find something to your liking for cheaper.

Those words of comradery are so true.
Nothing screams like fun and passion than going outside with friends and ejoying eachothers company.
I hope I can make it to the next gathering, maybe even by then I'll be making my own blades and I can bring some along!
I digress, my BK9 and BK2 will be by my side regardless.
Your honesty about the subject is touching Ethan, to see some one rather enjoy the company of the people that have passion for the blades rather than the publicity and sales aspect is a huge eye opener.

Not a rant at all Mr. Becker. Your hospitality is amazing. I just wish we could work it out to get to Blade Show so Cathi could meet you. Have a great time there sir and we will hope for more Becker gatherings - on the mountain if possible or elsewhere if need be!
