Man,I really know how to get you guys to look! But seriously a great combo would have to be the SJ and Pauls hatchet in a combo sheath.Just like the old Western piggy back sheaths they used to make.A pretty sheeple friendly rig and a great camping companion.I wonder if this would be something Normark could build?

That would be nice now that you mention it. Would also give me a reason to get both of those :D

Andrew, hasn't someone done a piggy back sheath with the AS? I seem to remember seeing a picture not too long ago....

Thanks for the pic firehorse,Another cool idea would be to have the PH and SJ in a hard water proof case for aircraft pilots. It would have foam cutouts for both and also have storage room for small survival gear.A hatchet does not have the swing or slashing ability of a large knife, but it hammers ground stakes a quarters game excellently,it also looks like you could choke up on it for finer work.As soon as I sell my SH Im a gettin one and will immediately test it!

That would be a nice pair......

How about these "Pairs?"

Good Evening Everyone-

Sub: BuyBrown & Normark kydex/concealex

So, what does come standard with Busse goods? I've got a Steel Heart E and a Pepper Shaker on the way and I don't know how they'll come "housed" in the UPS box. Before shipping, does Busse make any suggestions towards the ideal sheath for your activities?

Any guide to the specific strengths and weaknesse of each supplier? I'm sure there are forumites who have both or who at least have experience with both suppliers.

From what I can glean, they're both pretty much top-notch. Inquiring minds want to know! Their web sites are only somewhat helpful.

Hi Fellers
I will have some experimenting time next week so I will work on some different Kangaroos & post some pics.Man that guy from Austraila has a thing for kangaroo sheaths :D I will do some finger burnnin'& let you see what I come up with:)

Blue Jays,
Standard sheaths from the shop for the SH-e and Assault Shaker(I'm guessing its the same for the Pepper Shaker) are pictured below.

The SH-e has a kydex lined cordura sheath with a front pocket(velcro closure) the AS comes with a nice kydex neck rig.

This sheath is for the NO however the SH is identical.

Here's my take on Normark vs Buy Brown sheaths, both of whom produce strong high-ride sheaths. IMHO the basic difference is in the belt clip each uses for mounting the sheath to your belt.
  • Buy Brown uses Blade-Tech TekLoks, which I find much bulkier and more awkward to use putting the sheath on the belt (especially without loosening the belt) than the molded kydex belt clips used by Normark. To me, the bulk of the TekLok holds the sheath unnecessarily far out from my hip. Also, with a TekLok sheath I cannot easily (if at all) slip the sheath inside my pants for IWB wear and still attach it to my belt. While I've got a couple of TekLok sheaths, lack of IWB carry possibility keeps them out of the running for being used much.

However, the TekLok is less susceptible to material failure as might be caused by mechanical flexing of the molded kydex belt clip. FWIW, I've personally never seen a crack or break in molded kydex belt clips. But the physics says it can happen and I've heard second-hand reports of failures. One other feature of the TekLok is that you can get a Perma-Klip that locks the TekLok permanently closed.

  • Normark's sheaths are IME super easy to put on & take off of my belt, elegantly simple in their design, ride with extreme comfort (vs the bulky block of TekLok plastic), and allow standard outside the pant or IWB carry option without adjusting the belt clip at all. All I have to do is unhook the sheath from my belt, slip the sheath inside my waistline, insure that the belt clip has engaged my belt, and I'm good to go. I've got a few of Normark's sheaths already and have at least two more to get.

Good Evening Everyone-

RokJok...thanks for the very detailed response. You certainly sound like you're speaking from extensive experience with the two sheaths. I'll have to place a call to see about getting an upgraded sheath with my knife order. An extra sheath would be nice to lash into the trunk of my car someplace.

Eric, thanks for the photos. Yes, I've seen those before, I just wasn't sure what the "stock" sheath would be for the knives in question.

Excellent Kangaroo sheaths!
i usually just use my cordura/kydex sheath, with the smaller blade in the pouch, but a custom design with the Assault Shaker like that, all in kydex, is really hot looking. Thanks for the pics!

Hi Fellers
Just to clarify I do have another option on my sheaths for IWB carry & I make a tuckable sheath also, much like my tuckable gun holsters. The Tec-loc is what most people want but it is not standard, they are just so dang versital.I am in the prosess of updating the sheath section of my site with new pictures & examples of sheaths check it every once & awhile for updates. :D
Thanks for the intrest.

David,

Many thanks for the clarification. It's good to hear that there are a few ways to get attached to a Buy Brown sheath. I'll have to take you off of the "TekLok only" list. ;)

The TekLoks are very versatile in the number of carry angles they offer and the adjustability for belt sizes, plus the bombproof lock they have on a belt with the PermaKlip in place. But maintaining the IWB option is a big consideration for me,so they lose ground to other attachment methods.

Yours in nuclear pants for Busses,
Greg

That's great news David:D
Another thread had me thinking about an alternative sheath for my AS.
I'm looking forward to your pics:)
