A rediscovery, and I have sinned..

For nearly 3 years, I've owned a Jones Brothers knife, and not only have I not used it as much as I should, I even forgot that I had it for the past year. It wasn't until I was looking through a box of my things this past weekend that I discovered it again. It's a very stout blade of BG-42, 3.5" long, and .125" thick, retaining the full thickness up until .5" of the point. It's almost a wharncliffe, one of my favorite blade shapes. The handle is right around 3.5" long, and covered in G-10 panels. It's a perfect fit to my hand, and feels very secure. Though it has some minor cosmetic imperfections (in fact, I didn't even notice them until today), they take nothing away from the overall look or function of the knife. It came with a most excellent sheath by Frank Sigman, which is riding IWB on my right hip. I can't believe I've neglected such a fine knife, and I promise from this day forth to put it to good use.

Here's a pic, sorry about the horrible quality.

I like that blade shape. They make a helluva knife, it will serve you well!

Never owned any of their stuff, but I've always admired it and would like to get my grubby little hands on something they've made. Is that a Scandinavian grind, in that the bevel goes right out to the edge (like, to sharpen it do you run that whole bevel on a sharpening stone) or is there a little secondary bevel to the edge, too? Cool knife!

Chiro,

There is a secondary bevel, I just took it a bit higher and polished the edge a bit. In fact, the edge is probably a little convex right now, going by it's performance in paper. This BG42 is some amazing stuff.

Haven't seen one of those in a long time. I think we only made 3 or 4 of them. In fact, the one you have was the last one like it that we made. The design just never caught on. Don't know why.

Thanks for posting that.

Thanks for the thread! I didn't even know about these guys, I really like their stuff!!

What a sweet knife too! Don't know why it never caught on, I love the shape!

I'm a Wharncliff fan too. I'm considering a Lynn Dawson Scorpio for my next knife.

A beaut!

Thanks for making it :D. I've been thinking about how much I'd like a folder with that blade shape. ;)

We have made a folding version of that neck knife. Sorry, but I don't have a pic :(

Barry. Is it this one? The Tigershark. I've been looking at that one myself being the big Wharncliff fan I am.

No. That is our Tigershark model. We have made small neck knife versions of that model but they don't look like the one Chris has. The shape of the blade (handle too) is very different. The edge slightly sweeps out instead of in so it's not really a wharny or a hawkbill.

The knife Chris owns has been made into a folder on 3 occassions. I'll have to hunt for a pic.

The best thing about owning a Jones Bros blade, is getting to know the Jones Brothers themselves!

Great knives from great guys!

Chris, that is a handy looking knife you have there, It would rock as a frame lock folder! :D

I've had the same sin, I haven't touched my own JB more then for cleaning it since I got back home. Its about the best knife I've ever owned, the first non-factory I've ever bought, and I wish I'd treated it better but it did damn well doing what I asked. Wish my camera still worked so I could take a picture to show how well it held up.

heck yeah! When I got a Kershaw Random Task I found that blade shape really really useful, but the knife didn't hold up well at all, got very loose. I haven't seen another folder with that same shape, but here one is and it looks great! What's the blade length?
