A Remington and a Craftsman.

Is there anything noteworthy about these two fixed blade old timers? The blades both sharpen up incredibly well, both wear 4 1/2" blades.

I've been tempted to clean up the blade on the Remington, but I also like retaining it's naturally aged look.

The handle on the Remington must have shrunk a bit over the years because the hilt was slightly wobbly, so I added a few turns of red string between it and the handle, and it snugged it up nicely with no movement.

My guess is that they're 1950's era knives..... any guesses as to the steel?

I sometimes think we place too much emphasis on the latest and greatest steel recipes these days, when in fact, the steels from the old days are perfectly suitable today...... they take an edge well and they work hard.
