And they hung out on a barrier island called Assateague. The Sardinian, called a resolza was on a working holiday, preparing meals, and doing small cutting jobs. A nice Danish Havarti with caraway and a mild Jarlsburg.

After all the cutting, the owner took a break for an evening pipe.

The owner was only mildly surprised that the little Sardinian resolza handled all it was put to. Food, cutting some extra twine to be doubled up for double pegging the tent in the windy stormy weather that came through. The doubled over jute twine was laughed at by the resolza. The owners wife, who always carried her heart decorated Opinel that was a Valentines day gift from her hubby, admitted the resolza was a very capable knife, little or not.

Looks like your living the life!

The resolza looks right at home. Very nice gift of the heart decorated Opinel. Looks so relaxing there on the beach!

Thanks for sharing

Fun looking photos, looks like you had a great time and thanks for the report back!

We seriously need to look into a group buy of Sardinian Resolzas!!

Pocket knives, cheese, and a pipe! The only thing missing is a good drink. Perhaps a nice Bordeaux to go with the cheese.

You, sir, have a fine taste.

Great pics Carl, looks like you're having a lovely time, makes me want to get away from the city - and the antique shops - myself :)

That's the life. I'm jealous Carl, but I've got time off coming at the end of the month so maybe I'll get away then :)

Actually, it was as much a science experiment as camping trip. I made it a point, to walk out the door with only my Resolza in my pocket. I was curious as to how it would do in a semi civilized camping situation at not much bigger than a peanut. Karen had her Opinel, so I guess I could have the ol' lady help me out if need be, but the need never came. We had a Optimus 8 backpacking stove that was used for heating water, but all food processing and camp jobs got done with the resolza. Rope, packaging, whittling a toothpick after dinner, whatever. With my increasing arthritic hand problems, the longer handle of the resolza with it's little turn down at the back, made for a very good grip.

Since Assateague Island is a National park, there was no lumbering operation needed. No baton work on logs, no splitting of kindling, or slayng of zombi hordes. Just cutting jobs associated with a campout. The little friction folder did well. Now I find myself curious about taramundi's.

Carl,
thank you for the thread. As I wrote somewhere, these knives are not alien to beaches and sand :p
Funny enough, the title of this thread sounds like a whole stash of local jokes that begin with "an Englishman, a Frenchman, a German and a Sardinian are on a plane / on an island / on a tower / at a table... :D

Fausto

Carl, I hope you guys got to check out the little knife shop north on Rte 13 I told you about, and I hope my email reached you in time about the dive bar Harborside. Any time a bar has peanut shells or sawdust on the floor, you know you're in for a good time ;).

Fausto, part of me is kicking myself in the butt about that resolza. All good things come to those that wait.

Looks like a great place to camp out Carl! As to the Taramundi, I will tell you this, it is a fantastic little knife that I think would be perfect for you. I have the one that Scruffuk gifted to me in pocket a lot of days, and have used it as my primary cutter. It does everything anyone normally would need for 99% of daily knife needs, and is light as a feather and unnoticed in the pocket, till needed. I have listened to the mantra and its teachings are valid ;)
PM sent...
