Here is an old partial-tang 18" khukuri with a carved ebony handle and steel bolster which Terry Sisco just restored. Terry not only made the sash-style scabbard, he also fabricated a new steel buttplate from a piece of flywheel cover, pounding it to shape in the palm of his hand with a ball-peen hammer. To give some idea of Terry's attention to detail, the buttplate is fastened with a Nepalese nail salvaged from an old scabbard. (To give an idea of the quality of his work, it's also fastened with epoxy

). Uncle Bill graciously supplied a beautiful hatchmarked karda and chakma from BirGorkha to complete the project. Terry made the scabbard to fit them perfectly by long-distance, using only a scan instead of the actual knives. Anyone in need of a new scabbard or khukuri restoration should be aware of Terry's excellent work.

Terry has done some work for HI and we are very pleased with it. We tried to hire him at BirGorkha but he demanded more money than our usual 40 cents per hour! Greedy guy.

Khukuri FAQ

Berk,
I'm glad you liked your sheath and Buttcap.
I almost kept the khukuri (just kidding), I really liked it.

Uncle,
Make it 45 cents a hour and we may have a deal.
Take it easy.
Terry
