I went out for a little hike today in my normal stomping grounds. It was a bit chilly with some wind blowing through.
Found an uprooted tree that would make a decent emergency shelter.
Here is the bag that came along. It was made my Kevin of Empire Wool and Canvas. I dont believe he is making these exclusively, I picked it up at the gear swap at the Winter Camping Symposium. It is a very nice bag, perfect size for a day hike and has MOLLE on the front where I attached a Condor gadget pouch and double mag pouch which holds my multitool and monocular. What I like the most is the webbing on the inside. I can put all sorts of items in the loops and it keeps them well organized.
This is the knife that rode along, a custom from Lester River Bushcraft.
I recently picked up a Swiss M84 canteen. I really like it, and it fits well in my pack. I made a quick brew with my Trangia. I keep piece of tin foil in my brew kit for a simple wind screen.
I decided to try carving a spoon for the first time. I believe this was dogwood, someone care to verify? The bark is smooth and gray.
I sat and relaxed with a cup of coffee and carved my spoon. Aside from the Bahco to cut the section of wood, all the work was done with my Lester River custom and SAK.
As I sat, snow started to fall. The first of the year so far. It felt pretty nice to witness the first flakes fall as I enjoyed my coffee.
Here is my spoon. I still need to work on carving the bowl out, but I think it turned out pretty well for my first try.
And the obligatory snowy gear shot
Winter is here! Thanks for looking
