It has been a couple of years since I have added to our collection. Recently purchased a piece from James Emmons ABS JS and will post it to a future thread but was asked to photograph a Dagger by Paul Savage ABS JS when he and James visited our home to view and talk about knives.
A while later they returned and Paul had a nice Bowie and the Dagger and now that I saw it upon its return from the Spirit of Blade show in Troy, OH, it was a piece meant to be on display. Just had to figure out where and what knives would have to be moved elsewhere as space is not something available with the knives currently owned.
This is the resulting display including the plaques which were awarded to Paul as Best Art Knife and also Best of Show.
The Dagger is well worthy of being considered MS quality.
The basic information is
OAL 18 3/4" 12 1/4 Damascus blade 300 layer 1095/15N20ladder waves, blued guard/pommel/spacers/collar 4340 medium carbon, fluted wire inlay African Blackwood. The Blackwood also enjoys some underlying brown tones.
The Dagger also comes with an excellent sheath and stand made of Maple Burl and Wrought Iron which holds the Dagger in place and also has other decorative Iron attached.
With the plaques again
And the last showing the handle and both the obverse and reverse sides of the blade. The pattern is absolutely wonderful as the waves move along the ladders of the blade.
Both the fluting and the wire wrap are such that the fit to the hand is very enjoyable to hold and the balance of the Dagger is delightful. I also love the way that the ricasso has nice bevels to the edges.
Paul truly created a masterpiece of ART!!
