Hi all.
It is my first post in your forum.
I have just received a 180mm blue steel, Deba knife, from Watanabe.com. It is very good indeed, but I see a "scratch on the upper side of the blade, on the border, between two adjacent metal layers.
I have put a photo in another forum, and I put a link to see, as I can not myself upload pictures to the Internet.(My nephew does it for me).
Here is the link. http://www.foodieforums.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=444&d=1184317180
I asked the maker, who told me that it is normal.
Any suggestions?

Regards from Athens,

Theodore.

Theodore,

If you do not like the scratch, please contact Shinichi Watanabe, tell him the scratch bothers you and that you'd like your knife returned or repaired.

Congrats on a great kitchen knife!

Yeah, if it bothers you enough (and it must for you to post about it) I would do what Thombrogan suggests....

good luck

If you're talking about the intersection of layers of a laminated blade -that's usually visible and is not a 'scratch' as such. It's due to the difference in polishing of the two different steels.

Yes, it is my oppinion too, but as I have not deep knowledge on the topic, I ask you.
(I have another Watanabe knife, a Petty one, but it has not this "intersection", while it is made of more than one metal layer, so I ask for the Deba).
Theodore.
