Hey guys,
I've had and used my 25 for a few weeks now and decided I would give a little review. Also, I've been seeing a lot of new 25's popping up through dealers (when I was looking for one I signed up on a ton of "notify me when in stock" lists. Even though I have one now, I've been watching how fast these knives sell once I get that notify email, it's incredible. Also, I hope that means that some of you who have been looking were able to order a 25 as new batches are coming in.
I have carried my 25 every day for the last month and have been looking for excuses to use it. And to note, I carry my 25 in the CRK calfskin pouch like all of my Sebenza's and it really is amazing. I highly recommend one. It protects my knifes pocket clip from being scratched, and I can carry other things in my pocket without scratching my knife, and because I work in an office setting, when I pull my pouch out with the knife in it, it just looks like a pair of eye glasses in a case or something, very inconspicuous.
Onto the knife. Doing some paper cutting tests, this knife slices just as well as my 21's. Despite the extra blade thickness, it slices amazingly well and I have not been able to notice any discernible difference between it and my small and large 21's. For the first couple of weeks I had my 25 I had only used it for small things as my daily tasks don't normally require heavy cutting. A few days ago, I needed to break down a bunch of cardboard boxes and figured this would be a good test for the 25's cutting/slicing ability. Part of the overabundance of cardboard I had was from the Pelican 1600 case I got for knife storage which by the way is amazing!
Anyways, I could not believe how well the 25 slices through cardboard, even the thick stuff. I just got into CRK knives a couple of months ago, and haven't had a lot of experience with them so this was the first time I had cut cardboard with any CRK knife. I also tried my 21 for comparison and they were almost identical in their cutting abilities, in fact, the 25 with it's shallow hallow grind, almost a flat grind, seemed to cut better in some cases. The 25 sliced through my cardboard boxes like butter, it was awesome. I've mostly had low to mid quality knives and my CRK's have been my first ever high quality knives. Even cutting cardboard with a thinner blade from another knife company didn't even compare to the 25, or 21 for that matter. The 25, with it's extra finger grooves, fits the hand like a glove and gives the user a very controlled and inspiring feel. The gimping actually functions and makes for very nice grip. I still can't get over how well the 25 slices through cardboard though. Because of the thicker blade when compared to the 21, I wasn't sure how the slicing ability would be on cardboard but sliced through it like a champ.
To say my 25 is my favorite knife is an understatement. I owned a Hinderer xm-18 and the 25 knocked it out of the park. Takedown and re-assembly is easy as pie and the adjustable pivot is great. I love the thicker pivot and applying a tiny drop of purple loctite will keep it in place forever. I highly recommend purple over blue. I had a spyderco that came locktited in blue and I had to boil the pivot in water just to loosen it up so I could unscrew it. The purple loctite is not only strong but it soooo much easier to clean off than the blue stuff. The purple stuff is harder to find in stores but places like amazon have it pretty cheap.
I am still planning on doing a take down video. In fact, I made one when I took apart my 25 to apply the purple loctite I got but I didn't like how it turned out because I had never done a youtube video before so I am going to redo it soon and will post the link when it's uploaded.
